If your decision was prompted by what transpired in that "Christmas" thread, please understand that my response was not a personal attack against you, nor was it an opinion on the subject. Instead I challenged the accuracy of your message, as we all should have done. I never accept any inflammatory statement as the truth without verifying the source, especially when it purports to be "news", and especially when it's in the Murdoch media. That's why I asked for a reference so that I could see the real story for myself. As I expected, the actual story turned out to be far less inflammatory than your message suggested. That's not to say that I support secular holiday carols, assuming that makes any sense at all. And FWIW, I'm an atheist who thinks that the world would be far better off without any religion of any sort.
I wanted to clarify my position in that thread, but the moderator did not give me the opportunity to do so. Instead I had intended to contact you privately, but didn't get around to doing so, either.

Very interesting. I have done some digging. If someone has to come on here in disguise with all their profile details made up they really don't have much confidence in their own reality. Dukunter aka Marty Ibbetson from NSW on ABB is Father Ted aka James Morrison from Mooloolaba on here. Personally I find that disgraceful. We all come on here in good faith spilling our life secrets, pouring our heart out only to find out our friends are fakes. No wonder they have less than 100 members and hardly anyone ever posts.

I just offered a nights parking to a site member travelling down the coast, how do we tell if people are genuine. I fell sure the member i offered the happy hour to is genuine but I will be very careful from now on

That has always worried me too Tim. When I see the offers going either way I worry. I could be offered a front lawn to park on by someone here only to find when I get there they are an axe murderer, so to speak. I do know the genuine ones who I have contact with privately but now anyone could be suspect.

People do whatever they want to with the anonimity given by the system of most forums. I've been here for quite a few years, deleted myself once when there was a lot of fuss and a troll or two. (I used to be "Rosey") But I missed all you nice folk so rejoined. Most people are genuine, but you always get an odd person with an agenda, so its a warning to us all to be careful about your personal details in such a public domain. That doesnt mean to tell outright lies though!

On the subject of personal details, I've had two emails over a time, from members who I haven't given my email address to. I thought our email address' were private?

Hi Beth. In you profile when I click on it. There at the top it says Send Email and it is underlined. Maybe they sent it through there. Down the bottom it says Send Message and that is what you will get on here.

In regards to Aussue Baby Boomers, there are a some members of GN that also belong to that forum, started by Basil Faulty who was on this forum at one time, some of his posts are still here on GN.

Tim, I think you will find that the majority of the members are ok, the one's I've met have been fantastic. Like anywhere, you just need to be a little cautious, that is why I encourage people to limit the information on their profile or amend it, so that surnames and exact locations are not shown, but putting the state your in without a surname should be fine.
Some don't put a state which makes it hard for people to respond when they ask where a good repairer is etc, I usually don't respond to those requests unless they can be a bit more specific about which state or part of the state (eg; near Brisbane, north Qld etc. )

I'm not knocking his forum Beth, until today I didn't even know him and his mum had been banned, I can't say I noticed any of his posts out of line, but then I could have missed something.
As you know there are a number of GN forum members that also belong to his forum.

I believe that forums will always attract some people who want to play childish games but the majority of members are very genuine people who want to share with each other the joy of travelling this awesome country we live in I for one am genuine and I will consider others genuine untill they prove otherwise.

Beth, I would never do this myself and I respect the privacy of those that have given me their email addresses, however it is possible that someone you have given your email address to has passed it on to someone else in good faith.
That is the only way I can see how someone you didn't give it to got it.

I looked at my settings Marj, and on 'email visible to other members'... I'd set it on 'no, accept email anonymously', so now I've set it on 'no and don't accept email'.
I just felt a bit funny about strangers knowing my email address.
