I thought I had read or heard somewhere that the Ettamoga Pub in Albury has closed so While I am in Albury at this point in time I thought I would check it out. Well, to my disapointment YES IT HAS CLOSED. It has a for sale sign up and all fenced off, How sad, I have many good memories behind those now wire fences surrounding it. My new Doctor Daughter will be very upset as well. The reason I am here in Albury is my youngest Daughter graduated as a Doctor of Philosophy Yesterday (Friday). I'm not proud though. Oh well, must rest as I am heading west from here in the morning and will be meeting up with a couple of GN, they know who they are. I am looking forward to it.

It used to be a popular place in its heyday, and surrounded by other tourist businesses too. It would be a loss to the local community, all those jobs.
Congrats to your daughter Dougwe, shes done a lot of hard work to this stage. Enjoy the proud glow, may it last a lifetime!

The one in the Morley suburb of Perth also closed down, but was bought by Fast Eddy's and now trades under that name, but same building.
There is still one at Cunderdin, approx 150 kms east of Perth on the Gt Eastern Highway.

Ettamogah Pub closes

IT was last drinks at the Ettamogah Hotel on Friday night. Just weeks after owner Leigh 0Brien said he would spend $3 million revamping the iconic hotel, it has been shut down amid allegations Mr OBrien is $9 million in debt.
A sign fixed to the pubs front door yesterday by liquidation company RSM Bird Cameron said it was was currently closed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Two weeks ago, L & D OBrien Holdings was placed in liquidation after Melbourne architecture firm Hayball lodged a Federal Court application to have the company wound up over $375,857 in unpaid fees.
Mr OBrien has also pleaded guilty to stalking after making a series of threatening phone calls and text messages to a female former business associate and has been ordered to return to court next month.
On Friday, Mark Newbery applied to the Federal Court in Sydney to have Mr OBriens Ettamogah Pub (Albury) Pty Ltd, which incorporates four Ettamogah pubs nation wide, wound up over $30,000 in unpaid wages.
The Melbourne businessman, who lives in a Docklands apartment with his son, Trevayne, and drives a red Porsche, bought the worldwide rights to the Ettamogah Mob cartoons created by the late artist Ken Maynard in 1994.
He has denied owing more than $9 million.
What Im trying to do is work through this and get people paid, Mr OBrien said.
He claimed he was owed $10 million from his companies in liquidation.
I am sick to death of everyone going for the jugular and not wanting to work it out.
All the people lose. Im sorry, but all the poor unsecured creditors are the losers. They all should have been paid and could have been paid.
Mr OBrien said he sold his Brighton house for $8 million to pay off money owed to the National Australia Bank, and has also put his Bay Street, Brighton, office up for sale.
He pleaded guilty on April 7 in the Moorabbin Magistrates Court to stalking and using a carriage service to menace.

Its a shame to see such an icon go in that way. I had no idea there was one in Albury. I been to two, one on Sunshine Coast, can't remember where I saw the other one now.

Thanks N&R that cleared that up. I was having a chat to a Albury local that is actually next to me here in the Lake Hume CVP and she didn't even know it had closed. It would be good if someone bought it and kept it as is, if that would be at all possible. No matter how many times I go there I always get a laugh at the signs there, oh well. Looks like we are going to get a bit of liquid come down from the sky soon, still the weather has been great here since Thursday.

Yep, the one on the Sunshine Coast was still open when I passed by in November. I've only ever stopped in once.

I've always seen them as something akin to any other tourist attraction that you find in most of the more frequently travelled locations (big banana, big pineapple, big prawn etc). I reckon some of the old pubs you find out in the sticks or well off the beaten track are much more interesting.

Very true. I don't frequent pubs much, but love the outback ones.
