Looking for the coolest place to go with the van February on mainland Aus. Looking for somewhere within cooee of shops like 40/50km. Alpine country looks good but to far from shops and not practical to take van up to Falls Creek. Glen Innes is over 1000m up anybody live there to say what its like in summer.

I don't know about this summer but last Xmas (2010) we were in trackies for the 4 days.

Glen Innes is usually cooler so is Armidale .. Walcha is usually good in summer been ther in january when they had a frost

Stayed at Glen Innis show grounds in May a couple of years ago slept in one of the unlined tin sheds it got to 7c below zero at night and got to a balmy 1c during the day and it was sunny. It was like sleeping in a fridge/freezer. Lucky I had my Alpine sleeping bag, getting out of it was an exercise in will power I swore I would never go back there in the winter again No wonder the Scots like living there its home from home

Glen Innes looks good. Mean number of days above 30c looks great.
checking out maps looks good country for free camps. dont mind the cold fitted diesel heater 3 years ago. Webasto best investment ever made in comfort. so much easier and cheaper to keep warm than to cool.

Have you thought of Jindabyne or somewhere around Lake Eucumbene. Buckanderra (Lake Eucumbene) is about 30km from Cooma - is that too far? Jindabyne has a couple of caravan parks close to town.

We can vouch for the caravan park that has the ski lodge and row of shops out the front (can't remember the name) at Jindabyne the tourist caravan area is all bitumen has excellent amenities and gets nice breeze across the lake, there are also many day outings available and not too far from Cooma which has a couple of great coffee shops.

I'd be looking across at the South West Land Division and checking out Albany or Esperance. Lots to see and do over there and it is cool. The cool and clean air is beautiful to breathe - a lovely place.
