My family have proudly been here since 1814, and you have been good to us- well, most of the time.
We arrived poor, sick and hopeless, and found hope, prosperity and health.
You nurtured our family from convicts and immigrants who could neither read or write, and now their offspring can't spell without a spellcheck on the computer, and we include university graduates and lecturers in our ranks. We arrived clothed in rags and now have fashionista's in the line-up.
On the way, we have tilled your soil, dug your gold and your coal, built your road, bridges, towns and cities and fought in your wars.
We formed your police force, your army and your trade unions.
Oh, yes, we got up to mischief, taught your children, healed your sick and drove your trains and buses, swam on your beaches and fished in your creeks and lakes.
We welcomed your immigrants, married their sons and daughters, ate their foods and earned their ways.
