I am at Rochester atm my neighbour at home rang me to say I received in the mail what looked a parking infringement ticket. I told her to open it and she read that I owed $17.50 for non payment of toll on the Tullamarine Hway.
I was going to pay it online cause I thought maybe we had passed a toll and not known. That was until she read out the Rego number of the vehicle. It was not the Rodeo ute we are travelling in or our caravan, it is the Rego number of my car which is locked in our garage at home and has been there since 16th Dec 2011 !! My neighbour popped over home to check the car was still there. Of course it was so I am going to ring the number provided and have pleasure in telling them just where the vehicle is, certainly not anywhere Melbourne!!
My car has been busy since I left home!!!!
cheers

It didn't like being left behind Val. I didn't know there were any tolls on the Tullamarine Freeway. Wasn't the last time I drove on it.

Unfortunately HW there are now tolls on the Tulla Hwy if you go into the city and use the Bolte Bridge. If you exit before that you are okay
Valnrob, always good to check, we have had similiar experience.

Son in law just got a toll infringement notice - for a car he sold 4 months ago, and has been shipped directly from SE Qld to Groote Island - the toll charge was a month ago. Rego number was wrong, when he checked with the relevant authorities - pays to check.

Tullamarine Freeway from Flemington to Bell Street has ALWAYS had tolls on it from the day it was built

You have to keep an eye on these matters. Good luck with the discussion. I'm betting you'll have a hell of an arguement to have it cancelled. Where do they get the information from, or do they just take a pot shot and hope it's not picked up before the non-existent infringement is paid? Money for jam. Who watches the watchers? Where do the funds from these tolls go? They're run by private corporation. What percentage of the toll goes into road management coffers? Tolls were introduced to pay for infrastructure like the Sydney Harbour Bridge and SA's Mt. Barker Road through the Mt. Lofty Ranges. Now these tolls are all managed by the same corporation, and the E-tag is valid in the 3 states which charge tolls on their poorly maintained highways. So where do the tolls proceeds go?

well, CG, they sure aren't getting any money off me for their coffers, how do these people get it so wrong????? I'm glad I checked the rego or I would have just paid the amount online.

That is not quite true.
It was only when they upgraded the Tullamarine Freeway section, Bell St to Flemington Rd, in the late 1990s, to be part of the overall Melbourne City Link system did Tolls apply to that section.
At the time of the introduction of the Tolls many of my then fellow workmates who lived in the western Suburbs had to overnight pay $2 (at the time) each way to travel from Bell St to Brunswick Rd (the exit before Flemington Rd) which was their normal route to work. This section was previously part of the Tullamarine Freeway and was free.
Needless to say they were not happy.

Oh, Ok. I wasn't considering the Bolte bridge as part of the Tullamarine as I've always driven from Geelong, along the Western Ring Road to the airport.

HW coming from Carisbrook, we go through Castlemaine to the Calder, Tullamarine and take the Bolte bridge. Use to go via Creswick, West Gate but find it much quicker.

Brunswick road is the first toll at Tulla......If you do not go off Racecourse rd then you have to go over the Bolte bridge which is another toll.....Last Monday I went to Rosebud and was forced through the tunnel They had witches hats blocking me off to go to Kings way and then Neapean H/way There is no way I am paying for it...

Many years ago, Mum recieved a letter about her car being involved in an accident in NSW. She hadn't been to NSW. It went on and on with snail mail back and forth...finally it came to court and she had to go to NSW for the case. She basically had to stand up in court and swear that her car was in the garage at home on that date. My brother went with her and backed her up.
What a waste of tax payers money!

We once got a bill for unpaid toll (crossing over Sydney harbour bridge) but on the date stated we were in Queensland & had already changed the rego (one billed) for a Qld one. I wrote a letter explaining & never heard any more.
