Hi all, Just to let you all know we have started a new forum category called ‘Road Conditions’ in which we hope people will exchange advice about the current state of the highways and byways, and their suitability for certain types of vehicles. You will also find links to the latest official road condition reports there. To get the ball rolling we have moved across two recent threads from the General Forum relating to road conditions … ‘Help wanted from solo for roads Qld-NSW,’ and Grafton to Coffs. We hope you will all use, enjoy and get benefit from this new section.

Great idea. The immediate report from a nomad who is travelling a specific highway will be an up to the minute of current road conditions. During my recent trip from the WA border to Emerald was a great example. The internet reports can be as much as 3 days old. At the height of flooding, and when on a tight schedule, a current by the hour reference would have been handy. With so much flooding and road damage and road works going on, it is most helpful to have the latest information. At the time we depended on the information fed to us by the trucks heading in the opposite direction. It was very handy for us. Sometimes even GN's are on a bit of a schedule if they have a commitment at the other end of their journey, eg house sitting, park sitting, family event etc. It's now up to us to keep the information flowing. Eventually headings will appear relevant to each highway or main road. It would be good if we could utilise this site and those highway threads as they apply. eg Hume, Pacific, Eyre, Great Northern, Barclay, Bruce, Great Western etc.
