Phew...... I rang the hotline for the Non payment of tolls line today, explained the situation and where my car is. She asked for the Rego number and my name etc. checked up and oh dear, "what make and model is your car?? Oh, its NSW registered ????? we are very sorry, it should have been sent to the Victorian registered car with the same number as yours!!" "Please ignore the invoice, and you will not have an offence registered to your car." I hope not, and will not be happy if another "bluey" is sent to me!!

check with the RTA, i am lead to beleive that if 2 rego's are the same (even in another state) you could still have problems, it may pay you to change your rego number

I was always under the impression that thee could not be a duplication of number plates. WRONG!
When we went to trade in our Mercedes Benz A160 with a personal plate MY-A160 the dealer would not accept the trade in till the outstanding loan had been paid off?
We asked, "What outstanding loan? We always pay cash for our cars."
When the dealer had done a credit check, there was a vehicle with the same number plate in NSW (we are in Tas) that was on hire purchase, it took a very nice lady in our registration and licencing department to sort the mess out in super quick time (under 24 hours), she received a box of chocolates for her effort.
Even with receipts as proof, the dealer would not accept the trade in. They stated I could have taken a loan out on the car after purchase, despite my protests I did not live in NSW.
Have not "invested" in personal plates since.

That happened to me a couple of months ago.
I contacted them, to explain the event and I've never heard another word.
I then set up an E-tag and haven't had to use it since. The day will come.

Well done Val and Rob. It certainly pays to speak up and stand up for your rights. At the end of the day it's human error, so it has to be human fix up. You done good, and the outcome was the right one. Good for you!
