My name is James, happy to be joining all you lovely folk.
Me and the missus are planning our trip of a lifetime around good ol' Aus with the caravan.
I'm shopping around for some portable satellite TV so I can watch the cricket.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Good day James, welcome aboard; I know you'll enjoy and learn from the great crew here at GN Forum.
This is also to agree with yuglamron about VAST+sat dish system. We bought ours last May, been all around Oz for 7 months and are very happy with the outfit. Set us back about $700 all up.

Hi James,
As usual it depends on what you want compromised with how much you want to pay.
You can go the internet with a wireless modem and stream the cricket to your computer/laptop.Depends on signal then of course.Same as mobile coverage, depends on lots of factors.
Another option is V.A.S.T.
Viwer Access Satellite Television.
That is the free to air via satellite.
There are a few companies selling the system which comprises a set top box with a card.A satellite dish with various cables and of course a TV.
Campersat have a website which gives info and prices. There are others on the net too.
I think the set top box/decoder is around the $280 to $300 mark and then a sat dish and sat finder possibly around the $300 to $400 mark. You have to register as a traveller and get your system activated which is free.
I use the system when out and about and it gives Oz wide coverage of all the major free to air.One advantage is that if you are an avid sports fan and the local station where you are staying finishes the broadcast you can normally go to the area where the match is and catch their broadcast.
I have a friend in NSW who watches his home programmes from WA via the VAST sytem.
Hope thats not too confusing.
Cheers

James Hunt
VAST is the only way to go if you want digital tv, very good picture for sport.
DO NOT get their dish that sits on the ground, ask for one on a tripod.
Also you will need a good sat finder, here's the one I use, one you have used it a few times you will setup your dish within 3-4 minutes, dish size, I use a 65cm one, bigger ones are hard to store, ours travels on the bed.
Thank you for your sound advice and warm welcomes.
I did some research and found a nice company called iTechworld who offered me a system for only $399 from a retail price of $699.
The satellite kit came with an 85cm dish and storage bag. The salesman threw in all these accessories including Sat Finder, pegs, all the cabling, compass for free which I was most impressed.
I am most happy with my kit. The instruction manual is easy to understand and I can now set up my kit in under a minute.
The best thing was that they delivered it to my door.
I definitely recommend them for anyone searching for Portable Satellite TV.
Thank you again for all your help.

James, was that for a VAST system or are they still getting rid of their old analouge systems?
