It does Gert. We went over on Wednesday and stayed in an apartment that night as the cruise was at 8am and I didn't fancy leaving Snug at 3.30am to get there. It was a wise decision.
We drove back to Snug after the cruise though and got back around 8pm last night.
We had a really nice dinner at the 42degree restaurant up on the hill overlooking Strahan and the wharf and got to watch the sunset as well. Really nice and I felt very special with all the attention I got.
Here's a piccy of the sunset.

Wow, that was a fast trip... we stayed a week at Strahan, and had a ball. So much to do... they were running a play about a convict escape from Strahan which was absolutely hilarious, there was the railway tour as well as the cruise upriver, and Queenstown was a very interesting place for a day trip, theres an old railway museum there, and the mine. Plus Montezuma falls, walks on the beach, swim in the harbour, lotsa people were fishing, etc, etc.
Its great how you can cross the whole island in a few hours isnt it! You'll have to go back Ma!

You are forgiven Sir. We stayed at the Sharonlee apartments which although old were spotlessly clean. The decor took you back to the 1960's which we thought rather nice really.

If you come to Tasmania and you do absolutely nothing else a MUST DO is the Gordon River Cruise on the Lady Jane Franklin II.
We had the best day, probably helped by beautiful weather, great commentary by the Skipper Graham, and boy did he have a sense of humour, nice buffet lunch and two shore excursions.
Granted, it is not cheap but we consider if money well spent.
To see this remote and wild part of Tasmania was a revelation.
The only down side (for me anyway) was that Blue didn't get to see the 2000 year old huon pine while it was upright. It evidently fell down 11 years ago (just shows how time flys, it was still upright last time I was here) but it evidently is still alive and will regenerate sometime over the next 1000 years.
It sure is great Ma. Did they stop off at sarah island, that is great too and the actors doing the tour are just fantastic, at least the young bloke we had was, you really felt like you were there during that rugged time in history. Really an amazing place. The Wilderness railway trip is well worth doing as well Ma.
Are, the memories.

Yes we did Sarah Island Doug and yes, the lady that did the commentary was an actor too and she brought things to life.
The railway wasn't running, well only a small section from the Queenstown end because of some break down on the track so that meant buses both ways or part thereof so gave it a miss. Blue had done that before and he reckons that if you have the choice the cruise is much better than the train.

Glad to see you are enjoying the West in good weather Ma. We thoroughly enjoyed the ABT Railway trip, sorry to hear its not running as it used to. And the cruise was fantastic too... we didnt get to go ashore though, so that is even better now. Sometimes to not spend the money means you miss out on wonderful memories.

We did Strahan and Queenstown about six weeks ago Gerty so this time it was just back to do the cruise.
There were circumstances when we were there previously that didn't enable us to do the cruise at that time.

Yes a wonderful trip, we did the same one in Feb last year, our kids gave us the cruise for a Christmas present as they knew we would be over there.
Keep an eye out for the Gypsy Twitchers, frinds of ours that are over there at present.
Keep enjoying your travels over there, look forward to going back again soon.
