We will be travelling from Bermagui to Inskip Point in early March, probably going inland up & then back the coast. Can anyone recommend free camping spots along the way. We think we will stay a couple of nights in Moree at a caravan park but other than that we hope to free camp as much as we can. Would appreciate any suggestions. We have Camps 5, camp snaps book so can look up any that are suggested. We haven't made our mind up on an exact route yet. Also we will have our 2 small dogs with us.
Can highly reccomend the Gwydir Carapark on the south side of Moree, always stop there on our way back home from Canberra for a treat using their spa pools within the caravan park.

There are a lot of free camps along the way. You are obviously going up the Newell. One I stopped at was Beckham freecamp. heaps of room. Trying to remember, think it was south of Dubbo. Also the one with the old pub has freecamps, Mirool south of West Wyalong.

Hi Gerty Dancer, we are only leaving for a few weeks, not forever. Even living in paradise you need to get away sometimes....

Hi Butch and Shirl,
I've been to Inskip several times. Don't know what your vehicle is, but if 2wd Sarawak camp ground is probably most suitable. either way I like that campground. There are four different campgrounds I believe. When you go along the road from Rainbow Beach about 12k's you will see the different campgrounds on your right. Where I go to Sarawak campground, is keep going past the other grounds, they are all signposted. When you see the sign for Sarawak campground keep going a little bit further until you clearly see the inlet on your left and just opposite there is an entrance.
It always pays to stop your rig and get out and walk the campground to find a suitable site. Saves getting in there, not finding anything and then having to reverse around (sometimes) to get out. Can also check the sand track conditions first.
You can book on the internet but there are no reserved sites. Coming into Rainbow Beach on the left is the DPWS on the left and you can also book and pay there.
Dogs are allowed with usual restrictions (leash etc.)

I'm sure you've looked at the website, but if not the last time I was there Oct0 it was $5.50p.p.p.n.
Cheers,
Jack.
P.S. Gerty.
Paradise is where you find it. Especially in the cooler months. (Now that should start something).

Sounds like a good idea for a thread John.

Forgot to say and you probably know this already. When you get your receipt for the campground, put it in a snaplock plastic bag and peg to a guy rope or similar and the rangers probably won't even bother you. There is also a truck comes around delivering milk, papers, bread etc. During holidays it's every day but other times I'm not sure. When there in Oct (out of school hols) I think they came around every 2nd day. QPWS may be able to advise.

And you MUST get your permit before setting up camp......they are very particular about that one.
