Margaret, I've only stayed in a cabin in Tin Can Bay Tourist Park. No complaints. Very quiet. It has no view of the water, but it's only a short walk away. Don't know about dogs.
Kingfisher Caravan Park is central to everything, right on the main road, quite close to the water, and pets okay on application. But, being central also means it can get noisy. I think you'd be okay out of school holidays though.
Ace Caravan Park doesn't get a very good rap. Apparently the manager is rude etc. But, it is very handy to the water. Don't know about dogs.
My sister now lives there, so I visit often and can highly recommend the area.

I don't know personally jimbo. Only what I read in some of the CP reviews. If it'd been just one report, I wouldn't have said anything, but there are several.
Close by is Poona, where there is a nice little caravan park right on the water front. Cant remember the name. Dog friendly

It isnt on the water but half way between Gympie and Tin Can Bay is a park called Standown Park. Discounts for Veterans and CMCA members. Great atmosphere and great company. http://www.standown.com.au/index.html
