Hi When you say get clearance, is that with the local police station or through that State's weapons licensing branch

Qld has a very slow weapons licensing office due to a massive work load and very few staff and I imagine all states are going through the same problems

My daughter has been waiting for 5 months for her  concealable licence to come through in Qld

I have been a sporting shooter for around 30 years, a member of the Gold Coast Pistol Club for 20 years acheaved master grade in N.R.A pistol comps

I plan to do the lap visiting as many shooting clubs as possible and entering competitions

Are there any other shooters out there doing the same thing and have you encounted any problems transporting your sporting equipment from state to state ( plan to put a gun safe in the motor home)

Alan and I have been SSAA members for ages, also belong to the Seymour Black Powder Club. Every second year in June/July we go to Millmerran Qld for their rendezvous which is a lot of fun.  Seymour holds shoots on 1st and 2nd Sunday of each month, so if you are down this way and would like to visit just let us know. There are pistol shooters in the club, but only black powder.

Aha, then it is so much better to be a criminal because they don't abide by any of those laws and restrictions and not being licensed those penalties don't apply to them, so the court can smack their wrists instead.

Very good, that is why we pay pollies so well (sarcasm alert).

I have shot  BP but I am a .38 c/f and .22  shooter I shoot mostly N.R.A, service and I.P.S.C for fun and relaxation.I do have a couple of Uberti single action cowboy guns .38 and 44.40 but these are up for sale before I hit the road

I had a .22  15 shot semi auto, double barrel shot gun, over and under shot gun, single barrel lever action shot gun and a 303. All had plenty of use and I had many a good time with them all. Until my first child came along, then got rid of them all.

That has just reminded me of when a mate and I were stuck up a tree for 2 hours waiting for a very big and very upset wild pig to go away from the bottom of the tree. Why didn't you shoot him then I here you say, well, he was guarding the 303 that was left (dropped in a rush) at the bottom of the tree. We both had many a laugh since but not at the time, we were both only 20 and only us and our dry cleaner new exactly how we felt.

I am a S.S.A.A.  member and also an active pistol shooter.

We will be on the move in a couple of months time and are about to start asking the same questions, as we would like to shoot at a few pistol clubs on the way around.

Make sure if you get to Ballarat, you call into the pistol club on a Saturday afternoon and have a shot.  You might even score a couple of cheap nights camping.  If I can be any help with contacts here at any time please feel free to PM me.

The firearm entry laws vary quite significatly from State to State and just rolling up at the first Police station over over the border doen't cut it in most States.

Make your enquiries and submit your paper work to each state well before you leave on the trip.

In at least one state you'll need to know a licenced shooter or be in contact with an approved club so you can put the date of arrival and the date of departure on the paperworks as well as submit where you'll be shooting (Or if your passing through) etc.

I gave up ISSF shooting more than 15 years ago.
Master Grade in Standard Pistol) 'A' in all other events.

Now shoot PA Service, Wa and NRA events.

Master in Wa1500 & 1920 match. 'B' in Service, Service 25 and Service Unrestricted. Was higher but go backwards as the years go by.

Wow Pete, that sounds like some club you have there and we will make sure we look in when we are through that way. I'm afraid Ballarat pistol club is nowhere near as elaborate as that, but we are friendly.

We shoot mainly ISSF on a monthly roster, nearly all on a Saturday. We have seven ranges 2 x 25 metre, 2 x 50 metre, 1 plates range, 1 air pistol and one dedicated range with steel and reactive targets for cowboy action, IPSC and the likes. We also shoot a few rifle matches; .22 bench rest, service rifle ( downloaded 303s etc ) and 50 metre muzzle loading rifle.

Hope our paths cross somewhere down the track.
