i am told the thetford while being slightly smaller is better because it has a fan at the back and is better in the tropics
any feedback would be welcomed

Ours is a Waeco, and we had a 12 volt fan wired into the back of fridge space in the caravan.. works fine.

A fan is used to dissipate the hot air which accumulates behind the fridge. There is a fan for the inside to circulate the cool air within.

If I was in the market for a new fridge that works well in the tropics I would only look at the Vitrifrigio 12 volt fridge/freezer.
Yes, expensive but will definitely do the job extremely well and some.

This may sound like a silly question but why do people use these waeco fridges i'm guessing they are the ones that we see people have in the back of the car with a lead going to the van. We've only ever used the fridge in the van, its a full size fridge freezer and when travelling its off during the day and then we put it back on when we pull up and have never had a problem, if we free camp (away from others) its runs on the genny with my vpap machine.

My Engel in the back of my car is only 40 litres.
