Watching ABC news just now. Both Forbes and Parkes are under threat. Forbes being evacuated at the moment. Which means the Newell will be closed.
Oops, he also just said Nerrandera being evacuated. Won't be heading north for some time.
Also 9,000 have been evacuated from areas of Wagga Wagga.

I'm heading up that way at the end of this month myself Helena, hoping it has all gone down by then.
Griffith now flooded and evacuations taking place. They said this morning it will hit Hay in two weeks around 22nd March.

We are starting to think we'll have to take the New England Hway to Qld, as the Newell h'way and Kidman way all have floods somewhere, and will probably be pot-holed too. Floods out West are very slow moving, and sadly for the people out there, very slow to dry up too.

Hope HW and Gerty Dancer get through O.K. we have decided to be on the safe side and go to W.A. as our car is a Toyota Corolla very low to the ground and a front wheel drive to boot so we have to be careful of the roads etc and feel that there will be a lot of road damage up that way. Helena.

When I leave at the beginning of April, there will be 3 of us travelling in CONVOY. We can take it slow and detour if we have to. By then most of it should have subsided. Have no intention of driving through water anywhere.

Good to hear you will have an escort Marj. Just be careful and take it slowly. The newell hopefully will be open then, but, what about school holidays and I imagine with all the delays etc there could be a lot of trucks. Anyway, all the best with your new phase in life and will let you know if I am in your area.

My god, don't mention the word CONVOY on this forum, you will cause panic within the masses and there will be gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands among the doomsayers.

Thanks Helena. Will take it slowly and keep an eye out for damaged roads along the way. Last year when I went up I came across flood damage on the roads around Moonie. Was really bad, suddenly there would be a foot drop right in front of me. Happened quite a few times. One I didn't see till it was too late, What a bump.
We will be very careful this year.

Keep us posted as you go Marj, and have an enjoyable, and safe trip! So glad you are travelling with others, you'll be able to help them out as you are really experienced after that first trip, and nothing will go wrong with Myrtle this time!

If you go up the new england hyway, go the sunshine coast via Towoomba, and Kilcoy as it bypasses Brisbane and the traffic.Lovely country out by the Somerset dam, and the top of the range.Comes out on the highway at Buderim. Lots of road works nth of Nambour. Bill

In Cowra at present and the caravan park is very busy. Everybody we've spoken to said they had to detour this way because they couldnt get through on Newell highway between West Wyalong and Forbes. When I phoned Parkes yesterday I was told the road from Cowra to Parkes via Canowindra is ok, so we are heading in that direction soon.
The Lachlan river is over the low-level bridge here, but apparently the level is dropping. Take care folks!

It could take a while for it all to go down Gerty. Might have to be considering a detour myself at end of the month.

Marj, check with the My RTA NSW site posted at top of this thread when you are about to leave. Also phoning the visitor centre if you are worried about a certain place can be very helpful, as the RTA site can be a week or more out of date.
