Notice lately how many business places do not willingly give you a receipt for the transaction. They now ask if you want a receipt, I think they are trying to eliminate them selves from any future combacks &/or issues from that transaction, no receipt no proof.
Servo's in particular, woman asked if i needed a receipt, I said you should not even be asking such a question as most people dont want a receipt.
My reply was I'm not most people & we need to keep an eye on them, she was not a happy cashier.

I have noticed that too JC. Also another way of saving money, for every receipt not printed they might save 1/100 of a cent
All adds up in the long run.

I also get that when I pay cash for something. Methinks something fishy going on. Particularly service stations.

There was a scam going in eastern states at supermarkets, the checkout chics were entering cashout on transactions and by not giving the reciept noone noticed till it was way to late.

I too have noticed this practice, and there have been quite a number of occasions I have had to ask for the receipt for our fuel purchase, they will give me the eftpos receipt but not the one with the fuel details on it - I ask for it, so I can add up our fuel. Have also had to ask for the receipts in Woolies in particular, me thinks there is something fishy going on here!!!

Noone was saying you would pauline! It was a published story in most newspapers and no thought that ALL were doing it just a few. I offered it a good reason to make sure you get e reciept and check it!

They cop it for printing receipts too. A thirty something 'concerned environmentalist' gave the young student at the local Coles/Shell garage a right serve for 'cutting down forests' to waste paper. A pity she wasn't so saving with her personal conversion of oxygen to 'poisonous' CO2 (as was suggested to her by an exasperated customer behind).
Just to say that the big companies regularly come under fire for not being 'responsible' corporate citizens over apparently minor things and changes in policy are not always their idea, nor something they necessarily agree with.

Woolies and BigW in Perth seems to have adopted this as policy, and Coles servos are going the same way. Like many, I collect the fuel dockets to keep an accurate record of fuel useage, so having to ask for a receipt is irritating. I also noticed it yesterday at the (Woolies-owned) Dan Murphys. If it is corporate policy, it needs to change.

I've seen people throw their receipts in the bin near the door as they leave, so perhaps they dont expect everybody to want a receipt?

pauline, I'm not saying you did this but it was a scam going on sometime last year, perhaps it is still going on, so I suggest do as I do always get your receipt.
Scams such as this have been around for yonks but if the item is scanned, as is the case in supermarkets and most retails businesses, this scam would be almost impossible. Likewise at servos where the pump amount is automatically recorded by the till.

That is so true Gerty...........good customer service is to ask if they would like a copy rather then print one out just have them ask you to throw it in the bin...........which the majority of people do.
Cheers

I can't see a problem. If asked if I want a receipt I just give a polite yes or no answer depending on whether I do or not. All business customers including drivers of business vehicles need a "tax invoice" to claim their input credits on their BAS statements, a correctly marked receipt serves this purpose. If I need a receipt and one is not offered I simply ask for one.
I put all my fuel on credit card so that serves as a record for my fuel costs. I also keep a book to record my fuel consumption.

I was told at Woolies that if your purchace is under $30 they only have to give recpts if asked. If over $30 they have to ask (but not give one unless you say yes, was implied). Over some undisclosed amount they usually give recepts, but I believe/think its at the casher's discression.

sorry JR perhaps I did not explain it right. (COP = Check out person)
it goes like this, you go in and buy your goods but do not take a receipt, the COP can put on that receipt as you leave an amount of cash out, and pocket the receipt or throw it away, the COP can do this to a few customer's and then along comes the COP's mate and he/she buys some goods, get's the receipt, the COP then gives him/her the cash that has built up over the day, as a cash out to his/her mate, but that is not on his/her mate's receipt, they meet later that night and split the cash.
