My Townsville cousin posted this on FB this morning...
'just looked at the BOM site, and since 9am yesterday Townsville has had 136mm of rain, the wind is currently blowing NNE at 76kph and is a balmy 24.9 degrees and is 6.02am...'
As she said, Holy smokes!

Yes, the wind woke me up at 5am, and it was pissing down rain. Only lasted 30 mins, but was on cyclonic strength(60+ knots), and blew some of the mandarins off my trees, and damaged some shade cloth at the front of the shed. 3m waves in Horseshoe bay at the moment with a bit of erosion, but what can you do.You get theses "cells" embeded in these low systems at times, just like the "supercell" thumderstorms down south.Come to sunny Queensland!..................

I was thinking about you as well as my cousin this morning Bill. Glad there's not too much damage so far.

This weather is certainly bizarre. I hope everyone is safe despite the damage. You can prepare for cyclones but you can't prepare for these cells. There was probably a water spout offshore before it hit town. Stay safe everyone.

Strangely enough, I did see a water spout a couple of days ago , off the island. A couple of years ago, during another rain event, I saw 9 in a line stretching off towards the Palm is group. Very spectacular, but wouldn,t like to be actually in one. Bill

Glad you're OK Bill. It's our turn now. The poor little Quail in the big bird cage are living in a swimming pool at the moment.
Chers,
Sheba.
