Hi Everybody, PeterS deleted himself because he did not agree with our ‘no politics’ policy and particularly with the locking of the multiculturalism and Anzac Day thread. We have lost a couple of people recently because of disagreements over the ‘no politics’ policy. As I have said on many occasions now, this forum is simply not the appropriate place to discuss political issues. It is primarily a place for grey nomads and wannabe grey nomads to exchange advice and stories about travel-related issues in a positive way. Of course there is scope for fun and games as well, and the forum’s friendly banter is a large part of its appeal to many people. We understand that our no politics policy is not one that everyone agrees with, but experience has taught us that such discussions often lead to bad feeling. We want to keep politics and religion out of the forum because we want the atmosphere here to be welcoming and friendly. Our policy will not change. If anyone has any issues or concerns, please feel free to PM me.

Several regular contributors have been deleted or banned. Only the moderator Cindy knows why.

That's great Cindy, I totally agree with you, have seen other sites where members have arguments and it goes on for days if not weeks and just over polies or religion, keep e'm out Cindy please.
Just come back in to say I think the Anzac topic should have been allowed to run it's course, unless it got too political.

I also agree, there are plenty of forums that welcome this topic so make your way there if you wish to discuss these things, it is not too hard.
Cheers Neil

Good on you Cindy, stick to your guns.
I kind of like the atmosphere around her and would like to stay for as long as I can.
I find no interest in discussing politics because every person you ask has a different opinion anyway(which they are entitled to) I have never yet seen much in the way of concensus.
No politics is a wonderful idea
thats my 2 cents worth for today

AND, How many forum members have actually risked life and limb with volunteer service in the military since to keep this country of Australia free as it is today and see it gradually being eroded into a era of distrust.

Personally,I don't mind talking about politics. In fact, quite enjoy fencing withsomeone who can discuss the subject in a rational and mature fashion.
Recently, the handout to GMH came up and I watched Q&A on the ABC discuss the subject. Completely turned my opinion around.
The problem for me is when anyone resorts to the gutter level in there opinion or comments.
We in Australia, do not have or show the respect our politicians deserve, then we wonder about how our society is going?
Then people get on forums like this and show the same lack of respect to the feeling of other members.
The rules on this forum are plain and clear, no politics.
What part of NO do members not understand?
Keep it friendly and abide by the rules and all will be good.
Keep on keeping on Cindy.

I to agree Cindy, I get on this forum to get away from all crap that is going on in this world, this is our little '' shangrilah'' place to be friendly, Helpful, and have a bit of a laugh, or a tear, or pass on helpful and beneficial information,
You run a great forum here Cindy, keep up the good work and stick to Your ethics, as it works for the vast majority of forum members, the rest can go and join PeterS, and i hope they find a happy life ?? [ someday ] dazren

I certainly don't need to be depressed by religion or politics. This site is here to make my day, not make it miserable. Totally agree with Cindy's decision.

I love a good political debate, and am always up for a conversation on religion as well.
However, I realise that things get heated, and I don't like the rudeness and prejudice that emerges.
So I understand the house rules.
Cindy, I wouldn't have your job for quids.

It's not the topic which gets out of hand. It's the individual contributors who offer opinion in an offensive or abusive manner which makes it diffucult to conduct such discussion. A little rational debate is healthy discussion, sharing both sides of a topic is good for the mind, but the attitude of individuals has made it difficult to entertain healthy debate.
