This is mine Rocket N Strop.
I tow with a Hyundai i30, which gives me around 13kpl on normal driving. The little trailer, which I'm currently selling, is very lightweight at around 120kg. It's really easy to tow. It has a hard floor and sleeps two.
I now have a Viscount Nipper..I just wanted a little more comfort...and I can still tow with the i30.

Beth had a little unit towed by a small car. Now she tows a slightly larger unit with the same car. There's another member who tows with a small car, but his ID escapes me. (Senior moment). They are out there. It's a matter of power to weight ratio again.

I have a Subaru liberty, its only a 4 cyl and I tow an A'van Sportliner very easily behind it, doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference in my fuel consumption, but its really only suitable for one person, table can be pushed down to make a double bed but would be a bit squishy I think.

I have a HiAce van, there really is no room for two, sleeping, not in mine anyway. I think I am getting about 400 ks to a full tank of unleaded which is 58 litres, but who knows with Myrtle. Anythings possible. Will know more after this next long trip.

I'm getting 100ks' to 9 litres of Deisel in a High-ace Auto. Bought it from a couple who were upsizing, as it was a little too cramped for long-term travelling for the 2 of them.

Hi Sheba, haven't thought of deisel. so that's 11 kms to the litre. pretty good. probably right it would be cramped for long term travel. A a van at the back would rectify that if it could be towed by a hi ace. rocket n strop.

When the roof is popped up, yes.
It's 11ft long and 590kg, so comes well under the 800kg unbraked limit of my i30. I just have to remember not to load it up too much.
Of course, towing the bigger rig will be less economical. I haven't done the sums yet.

As a comparison the Toyota Corolla wagon tows a Cub Kampavan as if nothing is on the back.

You will always get better economy from a car or station waggon rather than a van as they are designed to be a load carrying vehicle and are not particularly aerodynamic also if buying secondhand most vans have had a hard life, but of course can be set up to live in without a trailer.
