How do we accumulate so much stuff that we never use, never look at, we pack them up in boxes over the years just in case we might need it or because we call it our memorabilia and just couldn't get rid of that..........well I am over it all, just crazy ........in the middle of packing our essential living stuff for van and our new life, also packing some items of furniture that we will be storing with friends and more boxes of our life that we must keep so hubby says, and then there is the garage sale on Saturday for all the other stuff we are letting go (that is if anyone wants it). Then the good time starts............cleaning, but in less then 2 weeks we will be out of here Yippee !!!!!!!!! but boy am I buggared.

Do you have family, you know, kids? I handed over the boxes of family photos which I inherited to my kids. Some other keepsakes they asked for also passed on. I'm catching up with family tomorrow to have another look through some very old photos to see if we can identify the individuals and put a date to some of them. I'll enjoy the day. My cousins invited me up to the farm to watch spud harvesting. It's been almost 50 years since I last saw a potato harvest on the family farm in the Adelaide Hills.

I have accumulated junk from 35 years on Magnetic is, and am thinking seriously thinking of retiring to a 1 bed unit, so I have to get ridof, or store piles of tools and other stuff. Big decisions of which nstuff to get rid off.The local op shop is going to get a lot, and a Mega garage sale , hopefully will get rid of the other excess. Decisions, decisions.

OMG....iI look around my 2 bdr unit and I am more scared of trying to get rid of the stuff than eventually hitting the road. I have made some small efforts but will keep at it and hopefully I can make a dent in it, as I plan to sell up in Melbourne send only what I really need to store at my son's in NSW and look for somewhere to buy while on my travels.....

Hooray. the next adventure. I have boxes and boxes of "Stuff" just in case and now I am in the process of scanning all photos and putting on the computer and then backing up the photos on an external hard drive. then... they are all going to the dump. amazing how many albums there are. Friends of ours are on the road and have left "furniture & stuff" with family and now they are going to get rid of it all because after all that storage time they have decided they never did need it. good luck. rocket n strop

Yes the photos are old, and some are very old, older than I, and that's really old. I would think it was Grandma's box browning or kodak which did the pics.
You'd be surprised at the quality of the old photos, B & W, but still very clear.

I honestly thought I had very little in my one bedroom unit. Boy what a shock when starting the clean out. Nearly every day I have dropped box or bag fulls of stuff at op shops, given all the old photos to daughter to sort through, easier than me doing it, sold stuff to neighbours, given stuff to neighbours, given stuff to lovely nomads to take up north for me, ( thats the stuff I want to keep). Filled every space in Myrtle for the trip north. Have put the bed down in to sleeping position and even packed underneath. I will never accumulate that much stuff again, I promise.

now the kids have grown, we now find"stuff" annoying. more stuff to clean and clog up the house. recently we have been on a clean out. giving stuff to kids, selling and giving to op shops. now, some cupboards are empty. yeh. just don't need "stuff" like we used to. We keep it just in case...... I have a clean out about once a year. I'm not a hoarder but some things don't get used, so they're out. The principle is if I haven't used it in the previous 12 months it goes to Vinnies or wherever. I've never lived anywhere long enough to accumulate too much.

Can't believe how much 'stuff' I have accumulated over the years. Can't believe how much money I have wasted over time buying this 'stuff'.....

Only last night I suggested to Syl that maybe, just maybe, we should look at buying a container, and using it to store the things I want to keep, for when we start our travels and have to empty everything to rent the home.
Somethings I could never part with, like my suede steel cap boots, have had them for almost 30 years, only worn them about a dozen times, but they are mine, I like them, they are mine, they look good, and they are mine.. and there is my under 7s soccer trophy.
Syl says Im nuts. I say "yes dear"

Now we cant fit everything in a Huge 4 b/room home with a triple garage.
No car has been in it for over 10yrs .

Regular house moves certainly help to cut down on 'stuff' - but as we get older, it is true, we start to see it just as 'stuff'. We can't take it with us when we die and our kids probably won't know what to do with it so it is wise to deal with it while we can. And once we get in that caravan, we cope with far less 'stuff' anyway (unless you are like my friend who even takes her breadmaer with her! But maybe not such a silly idea?)

Yes it is amazing how much we accumulate ove the years. I think it use to be the done thing to have heaps of "stuff" but today the push seems to be for a much less cluttered life. When I think of our parents and what we had to sort through, delve into and get rid of, it is a great idea to have regular de cluttering sessions. But we have to remember that many of our parents went through the depression or the war years so having "stuff" meant more to them.
Must admit after being on the road for a 12 month period made us realise that we have too much "stuff" have cleaned out alot, but when you have a husband who is into history and me into craft it does become difficult.
