Hi everyone, only 22 days before we leave on our trip (but who's counting). What I was wondering was because of the wet up north when the roads up the cape are likely to reopen. Has anyone heard anything about them. Just about got everything organised got new tyres last Friday we have 3 spare tyres (think that will be enough).

Thank you for that. Hopefully by the time we get up there (mid to end of June) the roads will have dried out.

I they don't get much more rain between now and the end of this month, the roads should be dry enough for your trek up the Cape. The roads are all unsealed after Cooktown, and the Bloomfield Track north of Daintree. You'll have to know the conditions at river crossings as well. The wet season officialy ends on 30/04, but there's no telling the weather man when to stop monsoonal activity. Good luck and have a safe and happy trip.

The road is sealed almost all the way to Laura. If you watch out for the road opening to all vehicles, go immediately, it will be freshly graded and at its best. Coming home you will need to contend with some corrugations. Reduce tyre pressures and slow right down.

We leave Mossman on 5th, going up via highway & coming back with trips to east & west coasts wherever possible. This having to book online with definate dates is a real pain (in all NP now no self registration). Anyone just back from up there with road reports. We did the trip in 2009 so I know how quickly the conditions change with traffic.
