The River Murray in SA is flowing very strongly and rising slowly.
The #1 Lock at Blanchetown is boiling over.
I spent the weekend at Berri and the river appeared to rise a few cms over the weekend. I think the towns along the river are preparing for high water level in the near future. There's a lot of water coming through the catchment from floods north of the Darling, in the vicinity of Murrumbidgee and Victoria.
The Murray has come back to life.

Great news in a way Chrissy but not good if it floods. I love the Murray.

I sat on the banks at Waikerie to eat my pastie from the Waikerie Bakery. The Murray River Queen is moored there. I worked in the "Queen" in '76 when I came back from prawning the Gulf. She needs a paint but she still looks good. They still do tours on the "Queen". A great experience.

Gday...
A couple of photos showing the Murray downstream from Swan Hill - first one taken in December last year and the other taken about a week ago.
Doesn't matter where you look the Murray is great isn't it!
Here's one at Cobrawanga, in between Cobram and Yarrawanga. At a great camping spot next to the river, a bit of a drive in on a rough dirt road, sometimes muddy, but well worth it.
I grew up in Mildura, swam, fished, camped, kayaked, skiied etc. Such a beautiful River, it becomes part of your soul.

Hey Doug, I think the water is moving, you may have to wait a little while for this to load.

I'd have to agree Glenda. The people who were born and bred on the river have it's soul. I only worked on the tourist vessel for 3 months, but it got me too. The magic of watching the banks glide by, the gums, the willow and the bird life. There are thousands of pelicans below #1 Lock at Blanchetown waiting for tasty morsels to boil over the lock. They drift down on the flow and then fly back to start it all again. I took some pics but haven't uploaded them yet. It just looks to healthy again.

The water is going the wrong way wombat, it's going backwards.
On looking a second time I saw a big Murray Cod jump out of the water too. I had better go back up there with a rod.

My Dad was born in Swan Hill in 1924, and grew up in Nyah West. We heard stories about the Murray all our lives. I accompanied Dad for a trip down memory lane several years ago, and it was amazing how many things came back to him just by being in the region. Things he'd forgotten about.
I was really chuffed at seeing it all through his eyes.
I'm heading down later in the year. Looking forward to seeing the Murray with lots of water in it.

Have camped on that bend many a time.
Didn't look that full then though. Good to see.

Must admit CG had tear in my eye last year when I saw the life come back into this beautiful lady.

Yeah, I got all excited. I stayed at the Avoca Dell Caravan Park, Murray Bridge in 08, and it was down about 2 metres - just a mud puddle, with no flow. A few weeks ago I sat at the Dell Recreation Ground and just wondered at the amazing contrast with the water up the bank and some low-lying areas under water. The back waters are starting to fill again now. There's more to come.
