my dads just wanting to have a go at it 89 this year
and i said go for it but he's a lefty like me
I have been looking on google for a feew lefthanded players
but theres not many i can see, any one here play violyn ?

Wow..your dad is ambitious. When I was a kid I played the piano and had to wait for my teacher while someone had Violin lessons, it was excruciatingly painful ....ha ha good luck :)

Milo, I teach adults of all ages, mostly cello, but I have started a few on the violin too.
As a leftie I can tell you that it is a distinct advantage to be left handed (more flexibility in fingering and moving through different positions.)
Don't need to change the instrument or look for a left handed one - just get a decent sounding one, lol.

thanks guys, , Kauki, dont know how flexible dads fingers will be... dad has a couple of old ones that he got and has found a nice young guy who seems quite good a couple teachers he talked to told him to forget it at his age etc , you cant do lefties etc
but this young guy seems to be good so hope he enjoy it

Milo, flexibility applies to teachers too, glad you found a forward thinking one for your dad.
I was told when I first started teaching instrumental music(S.A.education dept) not to even attempt teaching left handed kids - so at the tender age of 21 piped up - well I'm a leftie and you've heard me play and you hired me so what do you mean exactly? Silence was deafening, kids lined up to learn and never heard any more about it. Very surprised to learn teachers are still trotting out this line tho.

im a leftie too and learned guitar left handed, had no choice... just couldnt do it right handed

Howdyeeeee Milo, Nomads, B Boomers,,,and all U Nutters out there, well Im left handed,,, Did U know ??? every one is born right handed,, only the Gifted over come it. At Boona in the Show grounds, with Norma and (shadeeeee),Julie, and Jonathan, today Michell is arriving, next stop Gympie meet up, c U all out there in the play ground (Aussie),,,,,,,,Billeeeeeeee
