Unlike many others going north for winter, my husband wants to go to Yorke Peninsular (Moonta area). Can anyone tell me what the weather is likely to be like in that area in May? I'm thinking it could be quite cold off the southern ocean.

I was there two weeks ago during my holidays and often go there for a days drive and a bit of fishing. The weather will be similar to Adelaides so in middle to late May it will most likely be cold, maybe wet and probably windy. Its a nice spot and there are quite a few interesting little towns in the area, I lived in Yorketown when i was younger so know the area reasonably well. Fishing, Moota mines and the Cornish pasties are its main attraction. I would expect it would be chilly at best.

Thanks for that grill n chill. I thought it would be cold. Ah well. Just take an extra blanket and a good warm coat!

I had friends call in on the way back from spending 6 weeks over on the Peninsula, they absolutely loved it. They are from Daylesford and free camp quite a bit and could not speak highly enough of the camping spots they stayed at, both for the cleanliness and wonderful views. The weather, I do not know about, thought I would pass on their thoughts though. I must admit after they were showing me some of the spots that they stayed at in the Camp6 book, I just want my house to sell even faster so I can get out there and explore also. The thing that Maureen told me was to make sure you go into the information centres as they have many more little places and tips than in the regular books. Wherever you go or whatever you do have a blast.

We are heading to Port Hughes in 4th May for 2 weeks. It will probably be a little cool but the weather is so fickle at the moment you cannot tell. As Grill n Chill said it is an interesting area.

Thanks for Sharon and Glenda and Gary. Hope it doesn't turn too cold but whatever the weather, we'll be 'on the road'. Thought we'd go via Broken Hill as they say the 'water' is still to arrive in Balranald - so it must be somewhere between Hay and there.
