Anyone coming to Steamfest in Maitland this weekend?
We are planning a ride on one of the steam trains this year. I'm a sucker for steam trains- I remember as a little girl, my mother would load us onto the Glen Innes Mail for an annual trip to Sydney.
All the way she tried to keep our little girls' white socks clean in the sooty carriages.
Loved the tunnels.

Iused to like the steam trains too. Mareeba to Cairns - 15 tunnels. Of course although told not to we would put our heads out the window & get soot in our eyes.

Will check out the web site and add to my list. I am a tragic steam lover and spend many weeks (months) every year working at a Historical steam railway in Victoria and love every minute of it. Climbing over the locos and carriages and using the old trade skills to refurnish them back to live.

I used to live near Maitland as a young lad before joing the Navy - lived at a place called Beresfield our mode of transport to east maitland high school was the steam train and then later to waratah boys high - used to love those days - I can remember walking the rail line at waratah pulling a trolley with my grandfather collecting the coal that had fallen off the train and taking back home for the fire - my uncle was a ticket inspector and he would let me and my brother ride for free ahhh memories, isn't it funny when you start to remember they start flooding back - it's good to remember.
