I am looking at hiring a Britz motorhome later this year and will have daughter and nearly 5yr old Granddaughter. Was wondering about a caravan pk nth of Albury. We will be travelling to Ellalong Sth of Cessnock, is there a better way than from Melbourne up the Hume then toll Highway at Sydney, then Newcastle freeway...

Do you want the quick route, or the scenic one? Theres lots of variations through Vic, and you could consider the Colo Putty road to dodge the Sydney catastrophe.

Colo-Putty Rd is fine. And now there is a great stopover at Grey Gum on the Singleton end of Putty Rd.

You could take the Olympic Way from Albury through Culcairn to Wagga and you can continue all the way through Cowra Bathurst Lithgow, then through Lawson, Windsor to get onto the Colo Putty road then not far to Cessnock. The bit from Lithgow is winding but should be no problem. The Hume Highway is quicker and you'll use less fuel but we end up stressed out. If you are on that highway try to be settled for the night by 4pm as theres wall-to wall trucks overnight.
Enjoy!!!

I agree the Colo Singleton Road is easier than Sydney and the F3. The Grey Gum free stop and Broke are great free camps.
