thanks to all who gave me advice on how to load an entry into photo comp. Much apreciated. I managed to load one but 2nd one I think I will have to work on to reduce first

What I do in mine, not sure if its the same for every one.
i open the photo, right click on it and choose paint. Up the top a whole lot of options will appear. I click on resize and enter in 30 %. then save as. Have never had any problems uploading photos with that method.

i also upload to flickr or photobucket and edit my sizes on them too..

I use Microsoft Picture Editor. You choose resize for web

I use to go on Photobucket a lot for another photo project I was on, but I find the above I described as the easiest there is around. You don't have to go to any other site at all. Just on the photo you want to edit.

On mine, I would still have to go through right click 'Open with.....Microsoft Office Picture Manager' to get 'Paint'. I think it might depend on which version of Microsoft you have so instructions are different.
