Hows does one calculate the wear an tear costs of ones motor home..?
For eg: if i wanted some one to go away with me for a period of time, how do i calculate the wear an tear..?

I would imagine they would pay for their share of food, half of any entry to caravan parks etc, half the petrol. But as for wear and tear, I cant see how you could charge them any fee for that as you wanted them to go with you, you would have been going anyway, unless they offer to pay for repairs when you are out on the road. Thats my guess anyway.

I'm with HW, on this one, IF I asked anyone to come away with me for a while, I would expect all Fuel, Food, Park fees, and any other day to day costs to be 50/50 However if it was my vehicle and i was going to travel anyway thats my responsability, and would it not come into the equasion ??
just say the vehicle had done 200,000 klm or more, and while away it blew a motor, or transmission, what then, ??? would you want your travelling companion to pay half for a new motor or gearbox ??? I would'nt.
will be interested to see any other responses to this thread. dazren

Is your companion going to help with the driving, setting-up camp, etc? What is done for you should be entered into the mix as well. Difficult.

I would suggest you sit down with the person you are inviting and work out what you each think is fair. If there is disagreement during this process, it may be best not to proceed with going away together - as it could get worse once out on the road!

I think you are dreaming to expect someone you are taking to help with upkeep on your vehicle as you be going anyway.

as stated earlier make sure you sort it out before you leave the other party may think they are on a free holiday an you get the expenses because you own a motorhome your rich sort out who payes for or what percent of fuel, food,cp fees, attraction fees if you expect them to pay their share make sure each party knows what their share is to late after you start good way to spoil a trip if you want wear an tear you might want to charge them by the kilometer
there was a thread on here by gary and kerry march 2011 an they covered 25122 klm an their cost were $28609.48 all inclusive no more to pay
cost breakdown $1.14per klm
$78.60 per day
you can adjust to your own needs

you could enquire as to what it would cost to hire a m/home of your size for the duration of your trip divide by two then add fuel attractions cp fees ect ect

I can understand all the logic (not to mention the economic rationale) for splitting fuel/food/fuel/fees and stuff 50/50 but I tend to look at it a little differently. I go where I want to go at the pace I want to travel - and that's not negotiable. So I figure that I'm going to be paying for the fuel anyway and probably all or most of the fees. So I really only expect a contribution for the portion of the costs that I wouldn't incur if I was on my own - then anything else that is contributed is a bonus. You'd never believe I used to be an accountant would you?

Yes I would Nomadic. LOL Sort it all out before you leave home. The discussion will reveal your companion's expectations of your and of what they're prepared to contribute. That's 2 levels of expectations. They will only become reality if you both agree to the same expectations. Risky but a good concept. Good luck.

Once you have agreed to who pays for what and what share each of you pays, put it in writing and both sign, then no arguments later.
If your travel companion is going to pay for repairs to your rig please send his/her address to me, I would like him/her as a travel mate I'll even do a swap, you can have Mrs W
PS I would prefer a female

i always say if you blow a tyre of something then that should be halves but as for as they say if the motor blew up i dont think i would expect some one to help out with that ,but simple things like say a rock hit the windscreen while you were on the road they are things you should share because if that other person was in there vehicle and it happened same thing they would have to fix it by themselves, so simple things like that ,but huge things like a gearbox going etc ,well that is different, but yeah for sure sit down and figure it out ,sit and think about things that can happen like flat tyres, windscreens a rock hitting a light breaking it etc should be shared i reckon. just not big things

If you are travelling anyway and ask someone to join you I would expect them to pay 50/50 for food, Park fees and at least contribute to fuels costs. You are going with or without them and going to incur all other costs anyway. How much should they charge you for keeping you company on the trip? I would want to know whoever I was inviting pretty well before anyway. A good way to ruin a perfectly good trip if you get it wrong!
