Enjoy the solitude while you can. They all seem to "land" from June 1st. Everything gets really squeazy from then on for the next 3 months. Just out of interest, what are they charging for a night in the Cable Beach Caravan Park at the moment?

Cruising Granny - you are quite right about the mass exodus from the south beginning June 1. I live in south west wA and our town loses a large percentage of the older population come the beginning of winter. I am sure June 1 is circled on many calendars. Of course this year I plan to join them!

As of June 1st. I believe for a powered site for two including power is $350 a week. So $50 a night. I guess it will be more likely $350 a night if the gas gets here. It will be the end of Broome I would imagine. Between Dampier, Karratha & Port Hedland, you cant even book into a Caravan Park because of all the miners. Not that I am complaining, if we were half our age, we would be there earning the big bickies too. So I guess I best just enjoy the rest of May then eh!!!

It's all getting difficult accommodation wise up there. I wish the mining companies would provide caravan facilities for their workers in the vicinity of their villages as in Karratha. They took over the old Sea Ripple caravan park and turned it into a village, so they could provide some powered sites for those who have their own accommodation. That would free up the town's parks for the tourists. There's a park at Hedland South, but I wouldn't stay there. The main South Hedland Park has also been transformed into a village for miners because no one is releasing any more land for accommodation development. A bit political I think. Tourism doesn't rate very highly in that region, although they do like the tourists to drop in for a look, but they can't stay. I'm not sure where the gas processing plant plans are up to at Broome. Even it it was to be off-shore they would have had to accommodate the staff at least some of the time during their swing. (shift weeks) There is huge investment property development in Broome and this is taken up by the public services staff, and some of the mining staff. So between the mining and tourism there's not much room left, and it's all going at a premium price. Good luck.

Hear, hear CG. I think that goes for all the mines wherever they are. Why should tourists miss out because some 'business' has moved in and taken over. Our $ should be just as important - problem is I guess, the CPs can ask a bigger $ when the mines come.

I know how you feel, when we were there the RACQ paid for it but the place is far to dear and not pet friendly at all.
