Well this trip so far has added to our log of 'experiences'. After a week of waiting for new springs for the caravan, the problem didn't seem to be completely resolved. So we spent an extra day at our next 'big town' stop waiting for new caravan tyres to be freighted up from Adelaide. The truck was late so a quick job once again became a long job. That morning our gas bottle ran out too. It took two service stations before we found a new one. So now we are hoping that there are no new 'experiences' of that kind to add to our 'log book'. We had a lovely night last night meeting new people around a camp fire at a free camp 2kms east of Peterborough SA. Yorke Peninsular has given us a very gusty, dusty,then wet welcome. But at least we're here.

Golly gosh! What a crap day to be towing, or driving anywhere.! That's SA for you. Anyway the rain has settled the dust, and brought winter in with a vengeance. Thank God for aircon on the warm cycle. I went through Peterborough last week, and stayed at Jamestown pub for the night. I usually camp out on the road side, but I had stinking head cold, so I turned to a sook and stayed at the pub in the warm. I hope you enjoy your stay in the YP. There are regular GN's at Yorketown. DeBe is a local there, just west of the town. I'm sure they'll be glad to see you.

You've made me remember a couple of country pubs I've stayed in... usually cheap and cheerful, and good food. Why dont we use them more? Hmmm.....

Slip over to Moonta for a look. It's worth the drive, then run down to Minlaton and check out the little plane in the building just on the edge of town. It's an interesting story about the pilot and his plane.

Sorry Snapper49 we won't make it to Eyre Peninsular this time - we did 'do' Eyre back in the 80s though. Galahs - Moonta is where we are based for a week. Family research - Hubby is quite excited - he's reading research books as I type! He doesn't think Minlaton features in the family tree but we'll still take a look. Today I met a lady from Qld who was related to him - and she was just someone in the shower block!! So since we found a 'living' rel, we also hope to find some dead ones too.

You're quite right. Some of the little country pubs are quaint and comfortable with great hospitality. The Commercial at Jamestown was very friendly, the soup was hot and home made pumpkin. Yum! The young barman was so helpful and obliging. The best PR for the place. They have motel rooms out the back but they were booked out. My good luck. The room was comfortable with a nice little ensuite for $83 for the night. The bed was comfortable and the aircon was warm. The ceilings are so high they could build a mezzanine up there, because I think that's where the heat went. I was warm, slept well and met the other guys on time in the morning.
I stayed at the Boston in Pt. Lincoln a 18 months ago for the Tunarama Festival. Really cheap with showers down the corridor.
But hey, I live in a caravan park with a 200 metre stroll to the amenities block. These little rooms and caravan park cabins are luxury to me.
