Boulia has an artesian pool, my keen swimmer BIL loved it, but it is currently closed for maintenance until September(?).

I believe there's one at Barcaldine or out there somewhere.

It's a fair way out, but the Dimantina Bore won't cost a cent. You just follow the stream along until it's cool enough to get into. We had an open air bath there in the late 90's...I guess it's still the same.
It was awesome!... as the kids say!

G'day Beth, could you give me more info on where you swam (nearest town for example)in the Diamantina Bore, sounds ideal.
Thanks Geoff

I'm sorry, after all these years, I can't tell you exactly where. We were travelling along the Dimantina Developement Road, and came across the old steam engine which had been left there. There was an info board about how the bore started.
If you google Dimantina Bore Qld, there's lots of helpful sites about the bore. I notice there's now an Aquatic Centre at Bedourie.

Sorry I can't be more specific.
Bedourie is another place in the west with hot springs .
Blackall also has hot springs at the pool and also Ilfacombe and I believe the Infacombe one is free.
