Both sons will each take their 4 wheel drives and one camper trailer. Myrtle is not 4 wheel drive so unfortunately not allowed to go. Plenty of photos for sure.

I did a day tour on Fraser in 2008. I was intrigued by the variation of terrain and vegetation on a sand island. I took a very quick, cold dip in one of the lakes.
It's a beautiful place. Enjoy!

I did a day trip too CG, can't remember what year it was but quite a while back now, always wanted to go again.

I have camped on Fraser Is many times, and can tell you it one of my favourite places anywhere.You need a 4wd in good condition, and try to take all food and fuel with you as its bloody expensive over there. Mackenzie lake is beautiful, and the 70 mile beach has many good camping spots. Ely creek is a great place with huge amounts of fresh water pouring into the sea. Watch out as you cross the many creeks as people have come to greif.Don,t go too fast.Indian head is a great fishing spot and also for spoting whales and other marine life. Waddy point is also great camping. A road runs from Orchid beach over to Wathumba beach which has the whitest sand I have ever seen.DON,T FEED THE DINGOS!If you camp with other people you shouldn,t have much trouble. Keep all food locked away, as if its left out they will take it.Its a huge island and I don,t think anyone could see it all.Everybody should try to see Fraser is at least once.Bill

Beautiful place. We camped there for several nights - but a few years ago now. We went across on the ferry from River Heads and landed near Central Station. We returned from a point further north - Moon Point, I think - to Hervey Bay. That reduced the amount of backtracking we had to do.
Be very dingo aware. Do not leave any food unattended - on a table, or in open back of vehicle, even. Make sure all food, and footwear, is shut in vehicle, not just left in camper. At one camp we stayed, we happened across a dingo's stash, in the bush, not far from the camp. There were some wrappers from loaves of bread, a tin of corned beef - with tooth marks, a leather shoe, a pair of undies.
As well as being careful about creek outflows on the sands of the east coast (which you often can't see until you are almost on top of them, and which can be a couple of feet deep), watch out for people sunbaking on the beach. There have been regular fatalities where people have been run over.

Spent a week on Fraser a while back now - camped at Lake McKenzie - beautiful spot - did all there was to do, beach driving, fishing etc., - only saw one dingo, and that was when we were waiting for the barge to take us back to mainland.
Be aware of the HUGE lizards, they will steal your food as well - they have been known to rip the walls of tents to get at food, not properly locked up.
