Does anyone have any words of wisdom about Tassie for us.
First of all is it true there are long waiting lists just to get over there (we have a largish motorhome). I'm guessing it depends on the time of year? We like to travel off peak but don't think we'd survive the winter months & have also heard many of the free camps are closed during winter? Anyone been over there in September?
Also want to work while over there (harvest, factory, whatever) - any advice, hints or tips greatly appreciated.

I'm not trying to put you off but I've been a couple of times for only a week at the most on each trip. Last time I went was August 2011 and I swear that I saw signs at a lot of places that said "Closed Tuesdays and August". I came back with this on my mind and figure that Tassie is closed Tuesdays and August. I guess it's more of a Summer or Autumn place from what limited experience I've had. Amusing though.

Absolutely no comment on the above statement made by an expert that visits Tasmania for one week at a time?
There are plenty of "free" camping sites available all year round. In fact, last year up at The Bay of Fires there was a number of interstate RV's camped there and being supplied fire wood by the rangers?
As for work, remember that Tasmania has a jobless rate of 5+%, it depends on what your expertise is?
Friends who came to visit us a while a go, a OH&S expert and his partner, an experienced nurse, got jobs immediately. Stayed for one year.
The bookings for vehicles over 2.1 metres high is always in demand. Book early, both ways.

I concur with Landfall, weather can be a bit iffy on thr NW coast, but when you make the effort to come at that time of the year you plan accordingly. I live here and enjoy the four seasons, I have a motor home and have been freedom camping all year round.. Come on down but take plenty of time to get about. Enjoy

No problem, but you could have been more specific.
For instance, if you had said that the West Coast is closed from 1st June until the 31st May, I would have understood.
Not true really, but there are some businesses in Tasmania that really do not understand that they are in the tourism industry.
I once pointed out to one of them that there is a difference between "laid back and lazy."

I sorta took it te same way. There is always plenty of farm type jobs up the far nor west. Milking, calf rearing etc. Most will want to employ for te duration of te harvest, calf rearing etc. Dusty soms it up quite well. When cecking weather temps remember Hobart is often very cool where as the east coast is more moderate, west coast has the highest rainfall. Certainly wort a visit any time of the year with 4 distinted season. cheers blaze
