Lotsa people, especially permanent or long-term caravanners have little solar garden lights marking their site. A reading lamp would be good but theres already a couple of 12volt ones in the van and we try not to duplicate stuff.

I have a solar 'shed' light, which I got from Bunnings for around $15. It works a treat, but it's meant to be mounted on a wall or wherever. I've suggested it to many people for general use, but this one would be a great reading lamp.

They often use them to mark the location of their guy ropes and pegs at night.

I use one in my camp bed. It has pockets above the ends for "stuff" so I put one of those little halogen lights in there so I can see what I'm doing. I don't read in bed.
This looks like a great little lamp to add to our kits. I'll add it to the tips thread as well. I like the idea of it being free standing.
