I wish you all the best of luck. I wouldn't know where to start looking for rocks with valuable gems within. I do have a nice Rubyvale sapphire set with Kimberley diamonds. The sapphire was a gift, I designed the setting and had it made in Broome. Now about these gems, where do I start? I'd really like to have a go at it some time.

It is a huge amount of fun CG and I have books and books on what to look for when the gem is in the raw state. We have done heaps of fossicking around here over the past 8 years. Our home is filled with crystals lol.

I recall Inverell in the 60s and 70s when sapphire prices were high and sapphire mining was going "gangbusters"

Apparently so Jim lol. There are still plenty of fossicking places around and about but the sapphires seem to be tied up.

Oh nice Cannylass. To look at a sapphire in its raw state is amazing as it looks like rock and then when you see it cut and polished you would never guess where it came from.
