not sure thats quite right, I was led to believe that the mobile to the last land transmitter was charged to the mobile, from the last land transmittet to the satalite, satalite to the sat phone is charged to the sat phone. Sat phone to mobile, sat phone pays the whole trip. cheers blaze

G' day Wombat,(this is the first time i've ever spoken to a Guru) using inmarsat costs to ring in are about $8 per minute from a land line. they are treated as an international call and you must use the international phone codes. as with most things a call from a mobile would be even more. to ring out from my sat phone costs about $1 per minute. use only in extreme emergancy. this is as advised by my supplier. hope this helps.

Thanks Landy & Jack
I'm not too sure about the international phone codes, I have only been given a sat phone number, I would be phoneing from WA to SA, a group have just set off for an outback trip and one members mother is not to well and they have asked me to contact them if she gets any worse.

Well, Jack, you have picked the best of the best Guru's to speak to in wombat and I tell you that for free.
Wombat is a highly respected member of this forum and I try very hard to look after him and protect him from undesirable characters that move through here so just walk carefully yourself. No names mentioned though. Cos I'm not like that.

Have you considered sending a text to them Wombat, you can send a text my inmarsat phone for about the same cost as a normal mobile, but when my daughter rang it from her home phone Telstra charged her $25.00 for 20 seconds.

WOW thats over the top, just hope I don't have to phone the sat phone.
BUT sat phone's are only used in an emergency I would have thought, handy to have if you are in the bush, I'll stick with my HF radio, I am pleased I did not win that one in the photo comp some time ago
