Only problem with Wivenhoe is, it costs! I prefer free or very cheap.

I met Ken & Lyn Thomas today at Wivenhoe Dam. They had a lovely spot overlooking the water watching the birdlife.
Nice to meet you Ken & Lyn, and I'll see you again in Echuca sometime in October.

Friend of mine just got back from a few days at Wivenhoe on powered sites with a couple of friends. He said great site but few redclaw.
I often go up there in the Patrol for a bit of Kayaking .. in the warm weather.
Top spot .. especially with no power boats ... quiet!

Still a cheaper option than up the river at Somerset Dam.
Despite that, S'set is extremely popular especially at the weekend & holidays, especially with the power boat, ankle biter & boom box community. The red claw love it too, millions of them there along with the despicable trap robbers.
You can buy 'your own' cabin (or a long term lease) there now for $150,000? and stay there for over 200 days/year for a monthly fee. I have been told that they let it out for the remainder of the time & you might have to work round their bookings, but haven't confirmed this bit .. If you are remotely interersted, look at their web site for the details.

True, and a whole lot cheaper than a lot of other places. I've seen that section of Somerset, but it doesn't appeal to me at all. Too noisy. That's interesting about the cabins. There's something like that with some beach 'shacks' at Palm Beach, between Woodgate and Cooonarr. People I know have a share in one. The beach is a great place to camp, but a 4WD is needed.
