I have to get a new set of tyres. I currently run Cooper Discoverys, but I'm disappointed. Yes they have deep treads, but once they get near the end of their life the wear very quickly. I'm 90% on tarmac and pull a 2.5 ton van with a Pathy. I would be interested to hear reader's views on the best tyres to get.

I run BFGoodrich Allterrain "KO" light truck tyres on a 3ltr diesel GU Patrol.
We have just come back from a 15,500klm trip and they need replacing, to date they have done 92,000klms 65% towing a 2tonne full size Van.

We have been running Coopers ATR which have now done 84000 Klm and probably have another couple of thousand I started shopping around for tyres whilst on holidays and found the following for my tyre size 265x70x16. all quotes are for ATR
Bob Jane Maroochydore, BFG $379.ea, Bridgstone D697 $279 ea, Yokohama Go12 $279 ea, Pirelli Scorpion 4299
Jax Maroochydore, BFG $349 ea, Bridgestone $280 ea Pirelli $302 ea
I then did my normal check on ebay and found my preferred tyre the Pirelli scorpion for $192 ea with free delivery for four tyres I rang and negotiated a price of $180 ea from a wholesaler at 12 Anville St Seven Hills which isn't far from home the contact is Nick on 0407 437 938. they also sell a number of other brands including BFG.
Item number on ebay is 251107395117
The reason that I chose Pirelli Scorpion was they were rated as the best overall ATR tyre by 4x4 Australia, most Bob Jane stores have a copy of the article
Hope this helps

G'day mate, the price on the Bridgestone dueler 697 is far better than my quote of $305 fitted. The dueler is a new tyre that replaces the d694 (to be run out). Its the equivalent of 8ply according to dealer.
I settled for Coopers AT3 10 ply light truck tyre (carrying rooftop tent etc and internal load on rough roads) best price fitted was $355.00.
For anyone contemplating new tyres be aware and double check all information given against the tyre sidewall, ratings vary in same tyre size ( P..passenger rating & LT light truck have different load capacity) Mate of mine neglected this and ended up with Cooper tyres rated P when he "thought"he was getting LT on his Prado. Caveat Emptor hey!

Thanks for all your replys.
The chepest we were offered was Goodyear Wranglers at $254 fitted. This was at Beaurepairs with a 10% RAC discount.
However, we were told we should stick with the Coopers as there was still about 30,000k's on 2 of our tyres. Have got 2 Cooper CTS as repleacements fot the dead ones.
Looks like we will have to pay more attention to tyre rotation in the future
