Coming home on the M1 tonight in peak hour traffic, 3 lanes flowing nicely, I'm in the middle lane. Cars in front start breaking, then going around 'something'. When I reached the 'something' causing the fracas, it was a Land Cruiser towing a horse float at 60-70kph...60-70 KPH!!! FOR GOD'S SAKE MAN, MOVE INTO THE LEFT LANE! Said I, to no avail.

Huh? I enlarged it because it was too small before. From my view, your font is smaller than mine.

That Motorway scares me I'm afraid, I usually hold my breath until I cross the border.

Really? I think it's fantastic! So much quicker and easier than than the old Pacific Highway.
And a lot safer except when there's people like this bloke. It's downright dangerous if they can't or won't keep up to speed.

Hi Beth, the M1 after the recent upgrade with the third lane has done nothing to improve "drivers skill level"and until such time as European laws regarding slow vehicles are enforced by on road presence of police Im afraid it will continue....and then there's the tailgaters.....great fun on the M1 in the wet are'nt they! How about the one's who exit the merge lane and cut across all traffic? And where else but Qld do you see so many vehicles without number plates and obviously unroadworthy vehicles?
In NZ that's where! At least it was that way when I was there last.
I think there should be more police on the beat. So many times I've wished there wre police around.

Slow moving traffic on older highways with few overtaking opportunities are even more dangerous than on the freeways/motorways. Most likely in this instance he/she was transporting a horse(s) and wished to give his/her load a gentle ride but that's no excuse for not using the slow lane.
Sadly I've come across the occasional caravanner/RVer with a similar contempt their fellow road user.
If there's a choice between using a motorway and an older highway or city roads/streets I'll opt for the motorway even it involves paying a toll.

Yes, I'd say that was his/her thinking, but in peak hour traffic was just foolish. When I'm travelling I actually prefer secondary roads...as long as they are still good roads...to highways. But living in the city, the motorways are certainly the way to go.
What a sad story. Poor old bugga. Yes, lucky no-one was killed.

Not far up the M1 from my place is an 80kph zone where they're doing major upgrades. I counted 8 vehicles and one very stupid motorcyclist doing at least 100kph through this zone. There are speed cameras there somewhere, so I hope they all got they're photos taken.

There are plenty of police around trouble is they are sitting in speed camera vans
