Had a win , today , when I finally got all the bits together, and got my vast sattelite tv system to work , off the batterys in the vehicle and van. I had the box, so I got portable dish and 300w inverter on ebay, and after a bit of fiddling, I have hd tv in the van.I must admit, I am feeling a bit proud of myself. Its certainly clear and with good sound.Bewdy. Bill

Onya Bill,
If you have the latest receiver you should be able to record directly to a USB stick(64 Gigabyte) around the $40 mark, or external hard drive and never miss a program again.
Just plug the stick into your TV or receiver's USB port and away you go.Handy for the late night Footy or Movies.

Already have a 1 tb usb hard drive to record tv on, and play recorded movies. Does anyone know if you can get internet from yout vast setup? That would be handy in remote areas. Bill

VAST is simply a one way service therefore internet would not be available.

Great aren't they ?
When we first got ours , I put off hooking it up for a few days because I'd heard some horror stories about how difficult it was to get it right .
Took a little while the first time . Now it's a breeze .

Yes , it seems a lot easier than I thought.I didn,t even need the sat finder, as you can tun it in with the box , and it says LOCKED when you have signal. Bloody great. Bill

Love the satellite tv Bill - we have yet to find a storage place for the dish while travelling, just keeping it on the bed at the moment - we have the large dish - but it doesn't matter we manage - didn't know you could tune from the box - but it pretty easy to use the finder anyway - most important when the footy is on!!!!

Is this device for pay TV or free to air TV

Free to air johnnz - some people use their Foxtel or Austar boxes from home when they travel - because theey are paying for it anyway. But the VAST is free to air, you only pay for the components - dish, decoder box, cabling - and you get registered - which is a once only thing, apparently.

Jules, it's not once only you have to re-register every 6 months or maybe its every 12 months, you will get cut off if you do not re-register about 2 weeks before it expires
We were told we only had to re-register if we hadn't used the system, for the automatic updates to be installed. We use it regularly, so didn't think we would have a problem, but will check it out anyway.

if you registered online you would have received an email with an expiry date, if done by phone they would have sent a letter to you at home.
Did you register as a traveller?
The idea for a traveller to re-register is because you maybe in another state and need to reactivate, otherwise you will only get tv from the state you first registered in.
Maybe call 1300 993 376 and check to see what the situation is, it may have changed since I last registered, 3 months ago.
