Hi all, we are hoping to get an answer on roughly how many days could one expect a 9kg bottle to last running a 60 to 80 litre 3 way fridge.??
Thanks

Forum member "petengail" tells me he's getting an average of 26 days. I'm currently getting a bit less as I'm using my gas stove as well. As there are many variables these posts can only be an approximate guide.
Jim
PS: petengail's computer is currently "off-air" so he hasn't been posting for a while.

Thanks Peter & Jim.
Just gives us a little more info for when travelling. I realise their would be variables, figured the worst scenario would be 7 days if also using other gas appliances.
Much appreciated.

ATM we are running the cook top and ho****er heater and getting a month out of 9kg bottle, In the scheme of thinks fridges use very little And I think it will only cut the month by a couple of days when the fridge is also on gas. It will be one of your lesser expensises cheers blaze

Hi Folk My first time on the forum...so here goes.
Some gas calculations
Each Kg of gas will provide 50 Mj/hr ( Mega joules per hour )
So ..... a 9 Kg gas cylinder will produce 450Mj/h a gas fridge has a Mj rating of approx. 1Mj/hr
So a fridge, connected to a 9Kg gas cylinder, will run for 450 hrs...or 18.7 days ( the gas burner on the fridge will run all the time )
Step one Add the gas consumption of all the appliances
Step 2 Multipy the Kg of gas by 50 eg ( 1 only 9Kg gas cylinder 9X50= 450 Mj )
Step 3 Divide the supply of gas by the gas consumption ( Mj divided by Mj/hr )
The answer will be in hours.
My situation The two burner gas stove in my camper consumes 13.2 Mj/hr ( that is both burners full on for hour ) I calculated we would only use it 5% of 24 hrs. (1.2 hrs ) The fridge runs 24 hrs. The two 4.5 Kg cylinders would last 14.6 days.
The specifications will detail the Mj rating of your gas appliances.
Hope this helps

RE "So a fridge, connected to a 9Kg gas cylinder, will run for 450 hrs...or 18.7 days ( the gas burner on the fridge will run all the time )"
That would be a worst case situation
The gas flame is regulated so can/does go to a low pilot, probably about 10 % of full flame

Thanks Peter
Yep I agree..thanks for the clarification.....but that many variables...where to stop and start.
The same for the gas burners, on the cook top, at some stage they would be turned down to a simmer.
My own case of 14.6 days ....I would feel happy to push that to 20 days
Cheers

Hi Daz
I believe 14days up north in midsummer with frequent loading with warm goodies ,up to possibly 6weeks in Tassy in mid winter.,then in between take your pick.
But I would suggest you alwys carry a spare FULL bottle [ in a safe place]if you intend to bewell away from mains power frequently
hi Daz
Just the fridge?
at least 14days<3weeks
