A trick I learnt many years ago may help if you get caught out driving in heavy rain. Put on a pair of sunglasses. You'll be surprised how clearly you can see the road ahead thru a windscreen being pelted with heavy rain.

Ok, I've got the sunglasses, so now where is the rain?

Gday...
Confirmation, with qualification, of driving with sunglasses in the rain. Read all the site for the complete information.
I have tried this and it does improve vision to some extent. BUT they MUST be polarized sunnies or there will be no benefit
AND, it does not work at night.

Sounds good, I will try it next time. I have always used "RainX" on my windscreen and that always helps too, in many cases you don't even need the wipers on.

When someone gives me a tip like this I usually check with Snopes but I didn't on this occasion because of the circumstances at the time. I was driving my car and had a friend as passenger. We encountered heavy rain and I couldn't see. My friend took off his sunglasses and said "Try these". They were large cheap sunnies that fitted over my regular eye glasses that I wear fulltime. It worked. I then purchased a cheap, large pair of Sunnies to keep in the glove box. They are not polarized and always work for me. I don't doubt however that polarized glasses are better, but I don't feel like spending the extra money when the cheapies work for me....
