thanks Gerty - my thoughts also - after years of tenting holidays and having to take so much - I am sure it will be a major lifestyle adjustment just traveling around Will definitely do the small short trips away first until we get the hang of it all - recently spent 4 weeks just driving around NSW/QLD and visited so many great places - can't wait to go back. Hobbies - fishing for the man of the van and kayaking for me, so that tells you the type of places we will be heading for!
Cheers,

Hi there - anyone have a tried and true checklist for contents for a campervan (5 year old Coromal Sillouette - used by previous owner only 3 times). Only 2 people travelling. Having trouble trying to figure out what what we need and don't need - in particular what we need in the way of coping with any emergencies along the way. Duration and destination at this time unknown, but sure some of you out there would have a list tucked away that you could share. If one already exists on the forum or elsewhere ont he net, could you please let me know where it is.
Only 3 weeks to retirement - have van - have car - now need some ideas for what to put in the van!
Many thanks

You will get a better idea if you take it out for a weekend or even overnight nearby to your home/ shops.
It really depends on your self and what you want to do, ie camp independantly or in caravan parks, how you cook, what are your hobbies? And the list will change believe me!

I dont think there is a tried and true checklist that will suit every one and any list will vary dependant on how long you are away for which season you are travelling in and weather you are free camping or staying in Caravan parks, one thing to always be cautious about is your maximum weight limit and keeping your van in balance.
Hope you have many enjoyable trips when you retire and keep an eye out for forum members on the road a lot of us have forum stickers on our vehicles.

Hi chaslib,
I have a Avan Camper with a Toyota Prado as the tug. I am in the process of packing as we speak to head off within the next 10 days all going well. I made a list of things I might need while out in the playground and it stretches from South West Gippsland, Vic. To probably Cape York. The plan is, if it fits in without causing a problem I'll take it, if it doesn't then I'll priorities. The first thing on the list and will definitely go is medication and first aid stuff. I have just sorted the first aid stuff today.
I am taking things that will cover both Caravan Parks (240v) and Alternative Camping (Gas and 12v). It's amazing what I can pack into the Avan.
I am in the process of re-arranging things in the Avan (for the third time) and the Prado will be packed the day before I leave.

Leave the wife and all her clothes behind. You will not have any trouble soughting out the contents needed in the van.
