This is a similar product from BCF, and has the advantage of being able to sit under it (and cheaper) also back flaps fold down, but does nto have mozzie/insect cover like the US one;
When I go camping in my Patrol. I remove both rows of back seats (only 4 bolts on each) & use a piece of thin craft board to level the floor. A couple of ribs provide strength & storage compartments. I push the front seats right forward too.
A foam mattress (that is also used in the caravan to convert the table & breakfast lounge into a bed) fits nicely into the space. Long enough even for me. I throw in a couple of doonas. One under & the other over. A couple of pillows & a LED light & I'm in business.
But, the american 'tent' would be good to give more space. Unfortunately they say that it is not suitable for vehicles with the spare on the rear door.

Sounds good Cupie, where there is a will there's a way as they say!
This shows another couple of products that may (or may not) be ok for the side opening tyre door, see;
How does that work Hans, the led push light poked through a hole or just pressed up against it?
Is the bottle empty or some liquid in it?
Look quite effective anyway!

Thanks Hans, so the advantage is you have water to drink or otherwise use too.....double purpose! I like it!
I saw this elsewhere, I like the hard top ute tent and a few other good ones on it too, what looks like a campervan side door shower or loo tent, although on the display they have it on the wrong side, maybe they didn't have the room to put it on the sliding door side for display, it is down near the bottom;
I know there are many canvas makers that will make these, but I was more interested in the camping store types, lighter material and off the rack which are generally cheaper.
Oz tents also make some rear vehicle tents among other types.....
Here is a google selection of car tents etc from around the world, some interesting type there, lol!
I saw an annex like the Myalibaba or Lulusoso, on a van at cottontree CP a few months ago. It may have been attached to one of those Euro type vans. Both my wife & I agreed that it had to be the best looking annex that we had seen. Looked really good but unfortunately didn't have a rollout awning incorporated.
The roof top tents look good but maybe we would have trouble climbing up & down. Saw a couple with one at Cape Crawford & they loved it. Suited their bush bashing & they looked rather fit. So I suppose that like everything its horses for courses.

No I couldn't manage the roof top tents either, but the ute hard top tent would be ok, at tail gate level......

Looks good, Anaconda and some others have a similar one too.
Well I bit the bullet and bought the one that best suits my needs without having to erect a tent for short stopovers etc.
It was expensive but I do expect to get some good use out of it especially for camping etc;
See this link for pic etc;
