the wife and I will be doing a few short trips this year, then Sydney to Darwin May next year for 3months.

Ah memories! When we graduated from tenting to caravanning in 2006 we had a Suzuki Grande Vitara (2006 model) and bought a three month old Coromal Compac 401, so had a similar set up to you guys.
We loved our little back door caravan it was so easy for me to hitch up and move around, I would often travel up to meet my husband who worked in Tom Price so that we could start our holiday sooner. He was FIFO and would have had to fly back to Geraldton.
During the time we owned our caravan we took it all over Western Australia for trips that lasted between two weeks and 8 weeks. It gave us a really good idea of what we wanted in our next caravan and when we finally (late 2008) decided to upgrade to our Coromal Pioneer Corvair we sold it in as new condition for $2000 more than we purchased it for.
During the two years we owned our van we made few changes but the one I remember doing was I changed the backrests on the cafe dining. I went to spotlight and bought some upholstery fabric which was very close to the color/pattern to that in the van and with some thicker foam and a couple of pieces of MDF board we fashioned some back rests which were more comfortable. They weren't permanently attached and when we sold the van we took them out and put the originals back.
We had a bag awning over the rear door of our caravan, we hardly ever used it as it meant a lot of fiddling about. I have since seen people with a small rollout on the rear and think that is a far better idea. That really was our only dislike on rainy days not having something over the door, I say dislike but it really wasn't that much of a dislike.

thanks for the positve comments Sue. We have a full annex, but it looks like the previous owner may have had a simpler cover over the rear door as there is another track and brackets.

Hi Grahamg Must say you've picked the best van on the market, a Coramal !!! Perhaps I may be a little bias just because we've got one. Ours is a 604 it doesn't matter what rig you have. what is most important is getting out and enjoying it. Good luck welcome to the site.
