Here in Biggenden we are surrounded in thick smoke, can even smell it, need to close everything up to get away from it. Its a very close feeling.
I have seen there is a vegetation fire on the Maryborough - Biggenden Road and also one over at Brovinia behind Gayndah. Thats what I can work out from the Qld Fire Site.
Is anyone else experiencing the same conditions? I notice the whole SE corner seems to have fires covering quite a large area.
All the way south to Canberra where we are having strong winds today but clear skies, a fire engine just screamed past our house! Cant see any fires nearby though. Listen to the radio news, you might get a clue there Marj.

Beautiful night here in Brissie.
After a very hot day a cool breeze has sprung up & it is glorious in the back yard with clear skies of stars & moon.... ie no clouds or smoke.
Glorious after a recent few weeks in China where a good day was one when you could see a faint pink glow of the sun through the smog.

I would have thought there would have been a bit of smoke around Brisbane, considering the fires out at Redbank Plains, Collingwood Park and Springfield. Must be blowing in the other direction.

One of my cousins out Cunamulla way says there's smoke all around but none on their property, fingers crossed.

Checked the online site. A fire at Mt Tambourine and a fire at Logan Village. You are not Logan Village are you Beth?
Edit: Also a fire started today at Didcot which is on the road out to Paradise Dam from here.
They are popping up all over the place.

No Marj, but my daughter is at Greenbank, which is near Springfield. She had to keep my grandson home today because he has Asthma at the moment.
Actually, my brother lives near Logan Village, at Tamborine..not on the mountain. And they have a lot of bush around.

Today my cousin in Charleville said there's smoke around.
And it's quite bad around Springfield in SEQ. Apparently they caught someone who'd lit 12 fires in the area.

I saw Greenbank, Springfield, Redbank Plains on the news tonight. They have had it quite bad, showed kids being bused out of a school called Staines I think, unless that was the name of the bus line.

I just checked the names at Logan Village. Georgina Drive, Steele Road and Pine View Rd.. Residents urged to monitor their properties.
Sorry that was Tamborine, not Mt Tambourine. Is there a difference.

I haven't heard of Staines so might be the busline. The school text her this morning to say they're open but she decided to keep him home anyway. There's a lot of bushland out that way.

I think it was a Christian College. They were evacuating them.

Yes there is. Tamborine is the next location after Logan Village. Mt Tamborine is up the mountain.

Ok, it was Tamborine then.I checked it again. I used to live at Parkridge and sort of know the area a bit.

Just talked to my brother and they're fine. It's in the new 'sattelite' suburb they're making called Yarrabilba, which is on the eastern side of Waterford-Tamborine Road. And they're on the western side. Phew!

Faint but distinct smell of grass fire on my deck when I went out there as usual for breakfast this morning.
No sign of smoke in the air, but my neighbour reported having seen the glow from fires in the south west, towards the areas previously mentioned.
No risk for us as we are in Eight Mile Plains, not a flat in the bush as the name might suggest but on a hill squarely in the 'burbs'.
It looks like its building to a terrible bush fire season this year.

As far as I know there is only one Eight Mile Plains Primary, and it's on the corner of Logan Road and Underwood Road. Been there since the late 1800's.

Ah! .. My error ... I know the one. You wouldn't believe the commercial building going on in what was the old gully on the north side of the School .... unless you have been there recently.
I think the one I had in mind is the Warrigal Road Primary.
Please forgive my ignorance, I am really an Ipswich boy .. came to this area recently ... in 1981.

You're forgiven. I haven't been down Logan Road for awhile, but I did see some action from the Freeway recently. There's been a huge amount of change in that area over the years. It was all farmland in my school days. Good rich red soil, now gone to waste under big flash houses.
