How do you record your trip details,campsites,photos,places of interest and expenses while on the road.. Is there a program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg,that does this.We have both Ipad and Laptop. Cheers

There is a program called Nomad's Notes around the $30 mark which I just bought but yet to set up and use.Looks fairly user friendly.Maybe others will have suggestions and may have more experience with Nomad Notes or maybe there are other programs out there.

I made a spreadsheet for fuel and camp fees which gives me a daily cost. Can send you that. I keep a diary in Word and insert photos. I print that sometimes -and put it in a folder - quite fun going back and reading it. I put my photos in folders on the computer (and on a backup disc) - new one each month and rename them as I download them. I put a 'sanitised' version of the diary on to my blog - cut and paste it there:)

Thanks all, Will look up Nomads Notes.Would like to hear from someone that has been using it. Thanks Spida we sought of do that now but it gets a bit messy the way we are doing it,would like it all in one.

I didn't record the nity-gritty of my travels (i.e. fuel costs etc). It wouldn't have made any difference to where I went and how long I stayed. However, I did write a blog, sometimes every day, sometimes every few days, which I thoroughly enjoyed doing. I haven't added much since I returned home but, if you are interested, you can browse it on silvergypsy1944.blogspot.com. After I got home, I uploaded from the blog to Blurb and now have a gorgeous coffee table book. It is also available as a free ebook - my first attempt at that. I'd have to look up the link if anyone wants to have it. Monica

I tried Nomads Notes a few years back. I had some problems getting it to run properly and when I did I found it rather "clunky". I was able to get a refund without too much bother.

I created my own Nomad Notes as did Spida using the free Open Office but after a while stopped using it but the blog remains my record of travel.
I started it off when I bought the van and have posted regularly since then and by now have 341 posts and over 700 pictures covering almost everything that has happened since then.
Sounds like a good idea from extreme potato about making it into a book, mine would have to be done in chapters because I can't see any ending any time soon.

I use Blogspot and if you have a gmail email account you can use the drop down at the right of the tabs across the left hand top of the page after logging in.
Click on Blogger and follow the prompts to create a new blog. I suggest using a template from the options and follow the prompts.
If you haven't got a gmail address it is easy to get one from the gmail home page, google "new gmail email address" and it will be easy.
There is no charge for the blog and you can earn money by monetizing the blog using adsense.

I have found that recording trip costs (everything you spend) is easiest using excel spreadsheet. that way you can set up as many categories as you want and sum them up at the end using the auto sum tools.
for notes and photos we use "travelpod" it is a free travel blog on the net and is an excellent tool for not only making notes but you can share it with friends and family via facebook and/or email.

I use a spread sheet for my expenses and each entry is then added in columns on other pages using dsums etc. Fuel and mileage is entered in another page that calculates all the monthly and weekly averages as well as expenditure current and previous months shown and average fuel purchases and economy.
I don't record any trip activities though I take thousands of photos but they stay on my hard drive and are used as a screen saver on my computer. I select a state or area now and again to change the photos displayed. I also often view my photos before going to sleep but that's as far as they have gone.
Being a bit of a loner I prefer to keep them to myself even though I take great pride in the photos I take.
I was involved in the testing af a travel program called Aussie Travelogue which seemed quite good and recorded actual travel costs etc but also enable you to plan a trip and then update as you went along and added days in the middle etc plus add photos to each and any entry as well as it had the ability to auto create a blogg / web page but I never explored this option as it was not an interest to me. try http://www.aussietravelogue.com/
I have no connection to the people selling this program just as when a call went out for testers on another forum, I offered to do some testing for him
