I am at Lake Colac at the moment. Anyone else here or in the area? Lake Colac is lovely (and free) has toilets, fireplaces and tables and seats. I plan to stay here for a couple of days.
Cheers

we were at Lake Colac last January. It was very windy. There's a really good fish n chIp shop opposite the park near the public toilets. Greek shop. Very nice food. I loved the mussels battered. It is a good free park area.

Yumo - battered mussels - you will have to try that Chris - enjoy yourself - so glad to see you out there playing in the great playground we call home.

No wind here to today, stunning weather, clear blue cloudless skies. There were dozens of carp swimming right at the edge of the lake this morning. Pity they aren't edible. Also a flock of about 30 pelicans on the lake last night. Beautiful site. Makes one feel great to be alive and really appreciate our beautiful country. Can't see myself spending too much time in Townsville from now on.
Cheers!

Carp are edible - clean thoroughly, inside and out - stuff with garlc, lemon, tomato and onion - wrap in foil, cook on open fire or stovetop or oven - flesh just falls away - very tasty!!

We stayed on the north side of Lake Colac (at Meredeth Park). It was blowing a gale, p----d rain and froze the nuts on the spare tyre.
Otherwise a nice area. Toilets, fresh water and plenty of space to park the van. I stayed clear of the large trees. Some looked like they could be widow makers if you parked under them. The night we stayed, GN were waiting to get on the Tassie Ferry. They had been there two weeks.
With fresh water available, extended stays could be an option.
