St George is a lovely little town. Its not that far from Nindigully pub where you can camp on the river.
I loaned my Camps book to a friend so I can't look it up to job the memory, sorry.
Nindigully is a top spot to camp but not if there is a chance of rain.

My reference books say that St.George has - St.George Tourist CP at 221 Victoria St. - Kamarooka TP 56 Victoria St. and - Pelican Rest on the Carnarvon Highway.
The one we chose, Pelican rest was a good spot.
I agree that Bollon is a first rate spot. They were just finishing the camp on the water & the shower block when we were last there. Great for kayaking at daybreak & sunset too. It is around 90k from St.George though.
Nindigully (45k from St.G Camps 6-824) is a fantastic camp spot with a first rate pub with kayaking & fishing on the river. But as mentioned, beware of the weather. People often get stuck down by the river when it rains.
Camps 6 lists 4 or 5 other camps close to St.G. though we have not used any. Two to choose from at Beardmore including the dam. For local bush camping I'd look there .. looks like BYO water & showers. Wouldn't miss either Nindigully or Bollon though.

About 15kms out on the Surat rd there is a turn off to the left to the Beardmore dam .
1 km along that road , on the left , is a good campsite on the river . No facilities , but a good campsite .

Would agree that Bollon is a great camp spot - free hot showers in town.
