It gives another slice of public opinion .... I do wish CMCA were not so openly agressive in their push "threatening" communities to "ignore Grey Nomads at their peril" because we are "travelling bank accounts".

There used to be a saying in Queensland about southerners coming north for the winter with a $10 note and a clean shirt and not changing either. The constant demands by some some caravan/RVers (especially the CMCA) for freebies is giving some truth to the underlying sentiment of this saying. This is reflecting badly on all of us including those of us that are prepared to pay our way in life.
These constant demands and negative approaches towards the local communities is bound to make us all unwelcome regardless of what it is alleged we are worth financially to the community. I further believe this is counter-productive as one sure way not to get your wishes is to upset and insult those who would supply those wishes.
I can't help but feel that figures such as $700 (as mentioned elsewhere) per week being a typical spend of a visiting Grey Nomad is a figure that's been plucked out of the air and is at best a piece of fiction. Even those of us who stay in caravan parks don't spend that much including our park fees. Caravan park customers are worth more to the local economy than the freeloaders as most of those fees then circulate through the economy by virtue of the wages and rates paid and the goods and services purchased by the operators of the parks.

I would hope that everyone would read this article by Terry Sweetman which I believe sum up the whole debate quite well . And Jim that $ 10 note if cashed is all that goes into the local pockets , Has Sweetman points out the profit from fuel goes else ware

Thanks Gerty & Brickies, We took the photo ourselves using the timer on our camera. We were interviewed over the phone early this year by a journalist for the Courier Mail (Qld) and the photo was sent to cover that story (Grey Nomads supplementing their super by working as they travel). We did not know they would use the photo again, so I was quite surprise to see our faces peer out of my laptop when i read the article written by Terry Sweetman in this week's Sunday Mail.
