If they close it, it will not make people use the caravan park. If they want to use the caravan park that's where they would be in the first place. Just make people drive through Armidale to the next town.

The showgrounds is currently allowing free camping until next Monday in an effort to stall the closure of camping at the grounds. The local council is trying to close this great facility down and force everyone to stay at the caravan parks. We have just spent 2 nights there for $20 per night which included power, hot showers and toilets plus a free washing machine. No slabs but great green grassy sites. Anyone in the area would be most welcome to help the trustee stave off the decision

Councils are so narrow minded. Dont they want to attract travelers to their town. I also will be going straight through if they close it.

Here in Tassy there are a heap of free camps - great for the tourist, but we have found that the locals use them a lot as well - we were at Lagoon's Beach (near St Mary's) for a couple of days - and I reckon half the people there were Tasmanians. Has been the same at a lot of the free camps we have stayed at so far - apparently there is some talk of closing a lot of them, or putting a fee on them - but they would need to offer a bit more than some of them do at the moment - some have no facilities at all, no water, toilets - not even rubbish bins, though no rubbish around. Others have long drops - bring your own loo paper, so for a fee I would like water available, and a loo at least.
